1 S amuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.

Después Samuel dijo a Saúl: Jehová me envió a que te ungiese por rey sobre su pueblo Israel; ahora, pues, está atento a las palabras de Jehová.

2 T hus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: He decidido castigar lo que hizo Amalec a Israel, cortándole el camino cuando subía de Egipto.

3 N ow go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Ve, pues, y hiere a Amalec, y destruye todo lo que tiene, y no te apiades de él; mata a hombres, mujeres, niños, y aun los de pecho, vacas, ovejas, camellos y asnos.

4 A nd Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

Saúl, pues, convocó al pueblo y les pasó revista en Telaím, doscientos mil de a pie, y diez mil hombres de Judá.

5 A nd Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

Y viniendo Saúl a la ciudad de Amalec, puso emboscada en el valle.

6 A nd Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

Y dijo Saúl a los ceneos: Idos, apartaos y salid de entre los de Amalec, para que no os destruya juntamente con ellos; porque vosotros mostrasteis misericordia a todos los hijos de Israel, cuando subían de Egipto. Y se apartaron los ceneos de entre los hijos de Amalec.

7 A nd Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

Y Saúl derrotó a los amalecitas desde Havilá hasta llegar a Shur, que está al oriente de Egipto.

8 A nd he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

Y tomó vivo a Agag rey de Amalec, pero mató a todo el pueblo a filo de espada.

9 B ut Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

Y Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y a lo mejor de las ovejas y del ganado mayor, de los animales engordados, de los carneros y de todo lo bueno, y no lo quisieron destruir; mas destruyeron todo lo que era vil y despreciable. Intervención de Samuel

10 T hen came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,

Y vino palabra de Jehová a Samuel, diciendo:

11 I t repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.

Me pesa haber puesto por rey a Saúl, porque se ha vuelto de en pos de mí, y no ha cumplido mis palabras. Y se apesadumbró Samuel, y clamó a Jehová toda aquella noche.

12 A nd when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

Madrugó luego Samuel para ir a encontrar a Saúl por la mañana; y fue dado aviso a Samuel, diciendo: Saúl ha venido a Carmel, y he aquí se está erigiendo un monumento, y dio la vuelta, y pasó adelante y descendió a Gilgal.

13 A nd Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord.

Vino, pues, Samuel a Saúl, y Saúl le dijo: Bendito seas tú de Jehová; yo he cumplido la palabra de Jehová.

14 A nd Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

Samuel entonces dijo: ¿Pues qué balido de ovejas y mugido de vacas es este que yo oigo con mis oídos?

15 A nd Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

Y Saúl respondió: De Amalec los han traído; porque el pueblo perdonó lo mejor de las ovejas y de las vacas, para sacrificarlas a Jehová tu Dios, pero lo demás lo destruimos.

16 T hen Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

Entonces dijo Samuel a Saúl: Basta ya, y deja que te anuncie lo que Jehová me ha dicho esta noche. Y él le respondió: Di.

17 A nd Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?

Y dijo Samuel: Aunque eras pequeño en tus propios ojos, ¿no has sido hecho jefe de las tribus de Israel? Y Jehová te ha ungido por rey sobre Israel.

18 A nd the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

Y Jehová te envió por el camino y dijo: Ve, destruye a los pecadores de Amalec, y hazles guerra hasta que los extermines.

19 W herefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord ?

¿Por qué, pues, no has oído la voz de Jehová, sino que lanzándote al botín has hecho lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová?

20 A nd Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Y Saúl respondió a Samuel: Antes bien he obedecido la voz de Jehová, y fui por el camino que Jehová me envió, y he traído a Agag rey de Amalec, y he destruido a los amalecitas.

21 B ut the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.

Mas el pueblo tomó del botín ovejas y vacas, las primicias del anatema, para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová tu Dios en Gilgal.

22 A nd Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Pero Samuel dijo: ¿Se complace Jehová tanto en los holocaustos y víctimas, como en que se obedezca a las palabras de Jehová? Ciertamente el obedecer es mejor que los sacrificios, y el prestar atención que la grosura de los carneros.

23 F or rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Porque como pecado de brujería es la rebelión, y como ídolos e idolatría la obstinación. Por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra de Jehová, él también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.

24 A nd Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: Yo he pecado; pues he quebrantado el mandamiento de Jehová y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo y consentí a la voz de ellos. Perdona, pues, ahora mi pecado,

25 N ow therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.

y vuelve conmigo para que adore a Jehová.

26 A nd Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Y Samuel respondió a Saúl: No volveré contigo; porque desechaste la palabra de Jehová, y Jehová te ha desechado para que no seas rey sobre Israel.

27 A nd as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

Y volviéndose Samuel para irse, él se asió de la punta de su manto, y éste se rasgó.

28 A nd Samuel said unto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

Entonces Samuel le dijo: Jehová ha rasgado hoy de ti el reino de Israel, y lo ha dado a un prójimo tuyo mejor que tú.

29 A nd also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Además, el que es la Gloria de Israel no mentirá, ni se arrepentirá, porque no es hombre para que se arrepienta.

30 T hen he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God.

Y él dijo: Yo he pecado; pero te ruego que me honres delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo y delante de Israel, y vuelvas conmigo para que adores a Jehová tu Dios.

31 S o Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the Lord.

Y volvió Samuel tras Saúl, y adoró Saúl a Jehová.

32 T hen said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

Después dijo Samuel: Traedme a Agag rey de Amalec. Y Agag vino a él alegremente. Y dijo Agag: Ciertamente ya pasó la amargura de la muerte.

33 A nd Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.

Y Samuel dijo: Como tu espada dejó a las mujeres sin hijos, así tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres. Entonces Samuel cortó en pedazos a Agag delante de Jehová en Gilgal.

34 T hen Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

Se fue luego Samuel a Ramá, y Saúl subió a su casa en Guibeá de Saúl.

35 A nd Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

Y nunca después vio Samuel a Saúl en toda su vida; y Samuel lloraba a Saúl; pero Jehová se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saúl por rey sobre Israel.
