1 S amuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.

2 T hus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: ‘Yo castigaré a Amalec por lo que hizo a Israel, cuando se puso contra él en el camino mientras subía de Egipto.

3 N ow go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Ve ahora, y ataca a Amalec, y destruye por completo todo lo que tiene, y no te apiades de él; antes bien, da muerte tanto a hombres como a mujeres, a niños como a niños de pecho, a bueyes como a ovejas, a camellos como a asnos.’”

4 A nd Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

Entonces Saúl convocó al pueblo, y los contó en Telaim: 200, 000 soldados de a pie, y 10, 000 hombres de Judá.

5 A nd Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

Saúl fue a la ciudad de Amalec y se emboscó en el valle.

6 A nd Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

Y dijo Saúl a los Quenitas: “Váyanse, apártense, desciendan de entre los Amalecitas, para que yo no los destruya junto con ellos; porque ustedes mostraron misericordia a todos los Israelitas cuando subían de Egipto.” Entonces los Quenitas se apartaron de entre los Amalecitas.

7 A nd Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

Saúl derrotó a los Amalecitas desde Havila en dirección a Shur, que está al oriente de Egipto.

8 A nd he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

Capturó vivo a Agag, rey de los Amalecitas, y destruyó por completo a todo el pueblo a filo de espada.

9 B ut Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

Pero Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y lo mejor de las ovejas, de los bueyes, de los animales engordados, de los corderos y de todo lo bueno. No lo quisieron destruir por completo; pero todo lo despreciable y sin valor lo destruyeron totalmente.

10 T hen came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,

11 I t repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.

“Me pesa haber hecho rey a Saúl, porque ha dejado de seguirme y no ha cumplido Mis mandamientos.” Y Samuel se conmovió, y clamó al Señor toda la noche.

12 A nd when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

Y se levantó Samuel muy de mañana para ir al encuentro de Saúl; y se le dio aviso a Samuel: Saúl se ha ido a Carmel, donde se ha levantado un monumento para sí, y dando la vuelta, ha seguido adelante bajando a Gilgal.

13 A nd Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord.

Entonces Samuel vino a Saúl, y Saúl le dijo: “¡Bendito seas del Señor! He cumplido el mandamiento del Señor.”

14 A nd Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

Pero Samuel dijo: “¿Qué es este balido de ovejas en mis oídos y el mugido de bueyes que oigo ?”

15 A nd Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

Y Saúl respondió: “Los han traído de los Amalecitas, porque el pueblo perdonó lo mejor de las ovejas y de los bueyes, para sacrificar al Señor tu Dios; pero lo demás lo destruimos por completo.”

16 T hen Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

Dijo entonces Samuel a Saúl: “Espera, déjame declararte lo que el Señor me dijo anoche.” Y él le dijo: “Habla.”

17 A nd Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?

Y Samuel dijo: “¿No es verdad que aunque eras pequeño a tus propios ojos, fuiste nombrado jefe de las tribus de Israel y el Señor te ungió rey sobre Israel,

18 A nd the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

y que el Señor te envió en una misión, y te dijo: ‘Ve, y destruye por completo a los pecadores, los Amalecitas, y lucha contra ellos hasta que sean exterminados ?’

19 W herefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord ?

¿Por qué, pues, no obedeciste la voz del Señor, sino que te lanzaste sobre el botín e hiciste lo malo ante los ojos del Señor ?”

20 A nd Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: “Yo obedecí la voz del Señor, y fui en la misión a la cual el Señor me envió, y he traído a Agag, rey de Amalec, y he destruido por completo a los Amalecitas.

21 B ut the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.

Pero el pueblo tomó del botín ovejas y bueyes, lo mejor de las cosas dedicadas al anatema (a la destrucción), para ofrecer sacrificio al Señor tu Dios en Gilgal.”

22 A nd Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Y Samuel dijo: “¿Se complace el Señor tanto En holocaustos y sacrificios Como en la obediencia a la voz del Señor ? Entiende, el obedecer es mejor que un sacrificio, Y el prestar atención, que la grasa de los carneros.

23 F or rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Porque la rebelión es como el pecado de adivinación, Y la desobediencia, como la iniquidad e idolatría. Por cuanto tú has desechado la palabra del Señor, El también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.” Saúl Rechazado por el Señor

24 A nd Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: “He pecado. En verdad he quebrantado el mandamiento del Señor y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo y escuché su voz.

25 N ow therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.

Ahora pues, te ruego que perdones mi pecado y vuelvas conmigo para que adore al Señor.”

26 A nd Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Pero Samuel respondió a Saúl: “No volveré contigo; porque has desechado la palabra del Señor, y el Señor te ha desechado para que no seas rey sobre Israel.”

27 A nd as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

Cuando Samuel se volvía para irse, Saúl asió el borde de su manto, y éste se rasgó.

28 A nd Samuel said unto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

Entonces Samuel le dijo: “Hoy el Señor ha arrancado de ti el reino de Israel, y lo ha dado a un prójimo tuyo que es mejor que tú.

29 A nd also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

También la Gloria de Israel no mentirá ni cambiará su propósito, porque El no es hombre para que cambie de propósito.”

30 T hen he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God.

Saúl respondió: “He pecado, pero te ruego que me honres ahora delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo y delante de Israel y que regreses conmigo para que yo adore al Señor tu Dios.”

31 S o Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the Lord.

Volvió Samuel tras Saúl, y Saúl adoró al Señor.

32 T hen said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

Entonces Samuel dijo: “Tráiganme a Agag, rey de los Amalecitas.” Y Agag vino a él alegremente. Y Agag dijo: “Ciertamente, la amargura de la muerte ha pasado ya.”

33 A nd Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.

Pero Samuel dijo: “Como tu espada ha dejado a las mujeres sin hijos, así también tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres.” Y Samuel despedazó a Agag delante del Señor en Gilgal.

34 T hen Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

Luego Samuel se fue a Ramá, pero Saúl subió a su casa en Guibeá de Saúl.

35 A nd Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

Samuel no vio más a Saúl mientras vivió. Y Samuel lloraba por Saúl, pues el Señor se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saúl por rey sobre Israel.
