1 A nd it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

Aconteció en aquellos días que los Filisteos reunieron sus ejércitos para la guerra, para pelear contra Israel. Y dijo Aquis a David: “Bien sabes que saldrás conmigo a campaña, tú y tus hombres.”

2 A nd David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.

Respondió David a Aquis: “Muy bien, usted sabrá lo que puede hacer su siervo.” Entonces Aquis dijo a David: “Muy bien, te haré mi guarda personal mientras viva.”

3 N ow Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

Samuel había muerto, y todo Israel lo había llorado, y lo habían sepultado en Ramá su ciudad. Y Saúl había echado de la tierra a los adivinos y espiritistas.

4 A nd the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.

Así que los Filisteos se reunieron, fueron y acamparon en Sunem; y Saúl reunió a todo Israel y acamparon en Gilboa.

5 A nd when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.

Al ver Saúl el campamento de los Filisteos, tuvo miedo y su corazón se turbó en gran manera.

6 A nd when Saul enquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

Y Saúl consultó al Señor, pero el Señor no le respondió ni por sueños, ni por Urim, ni por profetas.

7 T hen said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

Entonces Saúl dijo a sus siervos: “Búsquenme una mujer que sea adivina para ir a consultarla.” Y sus siervos le dijeron: “Hay una mujer en Endor que es adivina.”

8 A nd Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

Saúl se disfrazó poniéndose otras ropas y fue con dos hombres. Llegaron de noche a ver a la mujer, y él dijo: “Te ruego que evoques por mí a un espíritu, y que hagas subir al que yo te diga.”

9 A nd the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

Pero la mujer le dijo: “Usted sabe lo que Saúl ha hecho, cómo ha echado de la tierra a los que son adivinos y espiritistas. ¿Por qué, pues, pone trampa contra mi vida para hacerme morir?”

10 A nd Saul sware to her by the Lord, saying, As the Lord liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

Saúl le juró por el Señor: “Vive el Señor que ningún castigo vendrá sobre ti por esto.”

11 T hen said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

Entonces la mujer dijo: “¿A quién debo hacerle subir?” Y él respondió: “Tráeme a Samuel.”

12 A nd when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

Cuando la mujer vio a Samuel, clamó a gran voz; y la mujer le dijo a Saúl: “¿Por qué me ha engañado? ¡Usted es Saúl!”

13 A nd the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.

“No temas; pero, ¿qué ves?” le dijo el rey. Y la mujer respondió a Saúl: “Veo a un ser divino subiendo de la tierra.”

14 A nd he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

“¿Qué aspecto tiene?” le dijo él. Y ella dijo: “Un anciano sube, y está envuelto en un manto.” Y Saúl supo que era Samuel, e inclinando su rostro a tierra, se postró ante él.

15 A nd Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

Entonces Samuel dijo a Saúl: “¿Por qué me has perturbado haciéndome subir?” Y Saúl respondió: “Estoy en gran angustia, pues los Filisteos hacen guerra contra mí; Dios se ha apartado de mí y ya no me responde ni por los profetas ni por sueños; por esto te he llamado, para que me reveles lo que debo hacer.”

16 T hen said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the Lord is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

Y Samuel dijo: “¿Entonces, por qué me preguntas a mí, ya que el Señor se ha apartado de ti y se ha hecho tu enemigo?

17 A nd the Lord hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the Lord hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

El Señor ha hecho conforme a lo que dijo por medio de mí; y el Señor ha arrancado el reino de tu mano, y se lo ha dado a tu prójimo, a David.

18 B ecause thou obeyedst not the voice of the Lord, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the Lord done this thing unto thee this day.

Porque tú no obedeciste al Señor, ni llevaste a cabo Su gran ira contra Amalec, el Señor te ha hecho esto hoy.

19 M oreover the Lord will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the Lord also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

Además, el Señor entregará a Israel y a ti en manos de los Filisteos; por tanto, mañana tú y tus hijos estarán conmigo. Ciertamente, el Señor entregará el ejército de Israel en manos de los Filisteos.”

20 T hen Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

Al instante Saúl cayó por tierra cuan largo era, y tuvo gran temor por las palabras de Samuel; además estaba sin fuerzas, porque no había comido nada en todo el día y toda la noche.

21 A nd the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.

La mujer se acercó a Saúl, y viendo que estaba aterrorizado, le dijo: “Mire, su sierva le ha obedecido y he puesto mi vida en peligro al oír las palabras que usted me habló.

22 N ow therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.

Ahora pues, le ruego que también escuche la voz de su sierva, y me permita poner delante de usted un bocado de pan para que coma y tenga fuerzas cuando siga su camino.”

23 B ut he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.

Pero él rehusó, y dijo: “No comeré.” Sin embargo, sus siervos junto con la mujer le insistieron, y él los escuchó. Se levantó, pues, del suelo y se sentó en la cama.

24 A nd the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:

La mujer tenía en casa un ternero engordado y se apresuró a matarlo; y tomando harina, la amasó y horneó de ella pan sin levadura.

25 A nd she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

Y lo trajo delante de Saúl y de sus siervos, y comieron. Después se levantaron y se fueron aquella noche.
