1 A nd it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

Después de esto David consultó al Señor: “¿Subiré a alguna de las ciudades de Judá?” Y el Señor le dijo: “Sube.” “¿Adónde subiré?” dijo David. Y El dijo: “A Hebrón.”

2 S o David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite.

Entonces David subió allá, y también sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam la Jezreelita y Abigail, viuda de Nabal, el de Carmel.

3 A nd his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

Y David trajo a los hombres que estaban con él, cada uno con su familia; y habitaron en las ciudades de Hebrón.

4 A nd the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.

Los hombres de Judá vinieron y ungieron allí a David como rey sobre la casa de Judá. Y avisaron a David: “Fueron los hombres de Jabes de Galaad los que sepultaron a Saúl.”

5 A nd David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.

Y David envió mensajeros a los hombres de Jabes de Galaad, a decirles: “Benditos sean del Señor, porque han mostrado esta bondad a Saúl su señor, y lo han sepultado.

6 A nd now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.

Ahora, que el Señor les muestre misericordia y verdad; y yo también les haré bien por esto que han hecho.

7 T herefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

Fortalezcan, pues, sus manos, y sean valientes porque Saúl su señor ha muerto, y la casa de Judá me ha ungido rey sobre ellos.” Isboset Proclamado Rey de Israel

8 B ut Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

Pero Abner, hijo de Ner, comandante del ejército de Saúl, había tomado a Isboset, hijo de Saúl, y lo llevó a Mahanaim.

9 A nd made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

Y le hizo rey sobre Galaad, sobre Gesuri, sobre Jezreel, sobre Efraín, sobre Benjamín y sobre todo Israel.

10 I shbosheth Saul's son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

Isboset, hijo de Saúl, tenía cuarenta años cuando comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dos años. La casa de Judá, sin embargo, siguió a David.

11 A nd the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

El tiempo que David reinó en Hebrón sobre la casa de Judá fue de siete años y seis meses.

12 A nd Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

Abner, hijo de Ner, salió de Mahanaim a Gabaón con los siervos de Isboset, hijo de Saúl.

13 A nd Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.

Y Joab, hijo de Sarvia, y los siervos de David salieron y los encontraron junto al estanque de Gabaón; y se sentaron, unos a un lado del estanque y los otros al otro lado.

14 A nd Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

Entonces Abner dijo a Joab: “Que se levanten ahora los jóvenes y compitan delante de nosotros.” “Que se levanten,” respondió Joab.

15 T hen there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

Se levantaron y pasaron en igual número, doce por Benjamín e Isboset, hijo de Saúl, y doce de los siervos de David.

16 A nd they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

Cada uno agarró a su adversario por la cabeza, y metió su espada en el costado del adversario de manera que cayeron juntos. Por eso aquel lugar fue llamado Helcat Hazurim, el cual está en Gabaón.

17 A nd there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

Aquel día la batalla fue muy reñida, y Abner y los hombres de Israel fueron derrotados delante de los siervos de David.

18 A nd there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

Estaban allí los tres hijos de Sarvia: Joab, Abisai y Asael. Y Asael era tan ligero de pies como una gacela del campo.

19 A nd Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.

Asael persiguió a Abner, y no se desvió ni a derecha ni a izquierda de ir tras Abner.

20 T hen Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.

Entonces Abner, miró atrás y dijo: “¿Eres tú Asael?” “Yo soy,” respondió él.

21 A nd Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.

Abner le dijo: “Desvíate a tu derecha o a tu izquierda, apodérate de uno de los jóvenes y toma para ti sus despojos.” Pero Asael no quería dejar de perseguirlo.

22 A nd Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

Abner volvió a decirle a Asael: “Deja de perseguirme. ¿Por qué he de derribarte en tierra? ¿Cómo podría entonces levantar mi rostro ante tu hermano Joab ?”

23 H owbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

Pero él rehusó apartarse; por tanto, Abner lo hirió en el estómago con la parte trasera de la lanza, y la lanza le salió por la espalda; allí cayó, y allí mismo murió. Y todos los que venían al lugar donde Asael había caído y muerto, se detenían.

24 J oab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

Pero Joab y Abisai persiguieron a Abner, y cuando el sol se ponía, llegaron a la colina de Amma, que está frente a Gía junto al camino del desierto de Gabaón.

25 A nd the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.

Los Benjamitas se agruparon detrás de Abner formando una sola banda, y se detuvieron en la cumbre de una colina.

26 T hen Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

Abner llamó a Joab, y dijo: “¿Devorará la espada para siempre? ¿No sabes que el final será amargo? ¿Hasta cuándo esperarás para decirles que dejen de perseguir a sus hermanos?”

27 A nd Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.

Respondió Joab: “Vive Dios, que si no hubieras hablado, ciertamente el pueblo, después de perseguir cada cual a su hermano, no se hubiera ido hasta la mañana.”

28 S o Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.

Entonces Joab tocó la trompeta y todo el pueblo se detuvo; no persiguieron más a Israel ni continuaron peleando más.

29 A nd Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.

Abner y sus hombres marcharon toda aquella noche por el Arabá, cruzaron el Jordán, y caminando toda la mañana, llegaron a Mahanaim.

30 A nd Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David's servants nineteen men and Asahel.

Joab volvió también de perseguir a Abner, y cuando reunió a todo el pueblo, faltaban de los siervos de David, diecinueve hombres, además de Asael.

31 B ut the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner's men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.

Pero los siervos de David habían herido de Benjamín y de los hombres de Abner, a 360 hombres, los cuales murieron.

32 A nd they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

Se llevaron a Asael y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre, que estaba en Belén (Casa del Pan). Joab y sus hombres caminaron toda la noche hasta que les amaneció en Hebrón.
