1 S o when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

3 N ow the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 O f which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:

5 M oreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

6 A nd David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

David los dividió en clases conforme a los hijos de Leví: Gersón, Coat y Merari.

7 O f the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.

De los de Gersón fueron Laadán y Simei.

8 T he sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

Los hijos de Laadán fueron Jehiel el primero, Zetam y Joel: tres.

9 T he sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

Los hijos de Simei fueron Selomit, Haziel y Harán: tres. Estos fueron los jefes de las casas paternas de Laadán.

10 A nd the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

Y los hijos de Simei fueron Jahat, Zina, Jeús y Bería. Estos cuatro fueron los hijos de Simei.

11 A nd Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house.

Jahat fue el primero y Zina el segundo; pero Jeús y Bería no tuvieron muchos hijos, por lo cual constituyeron una casa paterna, un grupo.

12 T he sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

Los hijos de Coat fueron cuatro: Amram, Izhar, Hebrón y Uziel.

13 T he sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

Los hijos de Amram fueron Aarón y Moisés. Y Aarón fue separado para ser santificado como el más santo, él y sus hijos para siempre, para quemar incienso delante del Señor, para servirle y para bendecir en Su nombre para siempre.

14 N ow concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

Pero en cuanto a Moisés el hombre de Dios, sus hijos fueron contados entre la tribu de Leví.

15 T he sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.

Los hijos de Moisés fueron Gersón y Eliezer.

16 O f the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.

El hijo de Gersón fue Sebuel el jefe.

17 A nd the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

Y el hijo de Eliezer fue Rehabías el jefe; y Eliezer no tuvo más hijos, pero los hijos de Rehabías fueron muchos.

18 O f the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.

El hijo de Izhar fue Selomit el jefe.

19 O f the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

Los hijos de Hebrón fueron Jerías el primero, Amarías el segundo, Jahaziel el tercero, y Jecamán el cuarto.

20 O f the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first and Jesiah the second.

Los hijos de Uziel fueron Micaía el primero, e Isías el segundo.

21 T he sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.

Los hijos de Merari fueron Mahli y Musi. Los hijos de Mahli fueron Eleazar y Cis.

22 A nd Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.

Y Eleazar murió y no tuvo hijos, sino sólo hijas, de modo que sus parientes, los hijos de Cis, las tomaron por mujeres.

23 T he sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

Los hijos de Musi fueron tres: Mahli, Eder y Jeremot.

24 T hese were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of twenty years and upward.

Estos fueron los hijos de Leví conforme a sus casas paternas, es decir, los jefes de las casas paternas de los que fueron contados, en la cuenta de nombres según su censo, de veinte años para arriba, los cuales hacían la obra del servicio de la casa del Señor.

25 F or David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:

Porque David dijo: “El Señor, Dios de Israel, ha dado reposo a su pueblo, y El habita en Jerusalén para siempre.

26 A nd also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

Y además los Levitas ya no tendrán que llevar el tabernáculo y todos los utensilios para su servicio.”

27 F or by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

Porque de acuerdo con las últimas palabras de David, los hijos de Leví eran contados de veinte años para arriba;

28 B ecause their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

y su oficio sería ayudar a los hijos de Aarón en el servicio de la casa del Señor, en los atrios y en las cámaras y en la purificación de todas las cosas sagradas y en la obra del servicio de la casa de Dios.

29 B oth for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

También debían encargarse de los panes de la proposición, la flor de harina para la ofrenda de cereal, los hojaldres sin levadura, lo preparado en sartén, lo bien mezclado y todas las medidas de capacidad y longitud.

30 A nd to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

Debían estar presentes cada mañana para dar gracias y para alabar al Señor, y asimismo por la noche,

31 A nd to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

para ofrecer todos los holocaustos al Señor todos los días de reposo, las lunas nuevas y las fiestas señaladas según el número fijado por la ordenanza que las prescribe, continuamente delante del Señor.

32 A nd that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

Así estarían encargados de cuidar la tienda de reunión, de cuidar el lugar santo y de cuidar a los hijos de Aarón sus parientes, para el servicio de la casa del Señor.
