1 S o when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 A nd he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 N ow the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 O f which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:

Davi escolheu vinte e quatro mil deles para supervisionarem o trabalho do templo do Senhor e seis mil para serem oficiais e juízes,

5 M oreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

quatro mil para serem guardas das portas e quatro mil para louvarem o Senhor com os instrumentos musicais que Davi tinha preparado com esse propósito.

6 A nd David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 O f the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.

8 T he sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

Estes foram os filhos de Ladã: Jeiel, o primeiro, Zetã e Joel, três ao todo.

9 T he sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

Estes foram os filhos de Simei: Selomote, Haziel e Harã, três ao todo. Esses foram os chefes das famílias de Ladã.

10 A nd the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

E os filhos de Simei foram: Jaate, Ziza, Jeús e Berias. Esses foram os filhos de Simei, quatro ao todo.

11 A nd Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house.

12 T he sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 T he sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

Estes foram os filhos de Anrão: Arão e Moisés. Arão foi separado, ele e seus descendentes, para sempre, para consagrar as coisas santíssimas, oferecer sacrifícios ao Senhor, ministrar diante dele e pronunciar bênçãos em seu nome.

14 N ow concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

Os filhos de Moisés, homem de Deus, foram contados como parte da tribo de Levi.

15 T he sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.

Estes foram os filhos de Moisés: Gérson e Eliézer.

16 O f the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.

Sebuel foi o chefe dos descendentes de Gérson.

17 A nd the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 O f the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.

19 O f the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 O f the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first and Jesiah the second.

21 T he sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.

Dos filhos de Merari: Mali e Musi. Estes foram os filhos de Mali: Eleazar e Quis.

22 A nd Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.

Eleazar morreu sem ter filhos, teve apenas filhas. Os primos delas, os filhos de Quis, casaram-se com elas.

23 T he sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

Estes foram os filhos de Musi: Mali, Éder e Jeremote, três ao todo.

24 T hese were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of twenty years and upward.

Esses foram os descendentes de Levi pelas suas famílias: os chefes de famílias conforme registrados por seus nomes e contados individualmente, ou seja, os de vinte anos para cima, que serviam no templo do Senhor.

25 F or David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:

Pois Davi dissera: “Uma vez que o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, concedeu descanso ao seu povo e veio habitar para sempre em Jerusalém,

26 A nd also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

os levitas não mais precisam carregar o tabernáculo nem os utensílios usados em seu serviço”.

27 F or by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

De acordo com as instruções finais de Davi, foram contados os levitas de vinte anos para cima.

28 B ecause their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

O dever dos levitas era ajudar os descendentes de Arão no serviço do templo do Senhor. Encarregavam-se dos pátios, das salas laterais, da purificação de todas as coisas sagradas e das outras tarefas da casa de Deus.

29 B oth for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

Estavam encarregados do pão consagrado, da farinha para as ofertas de cereal, dos bolos sem fermento, de assar o pão e misturar a massa, e de todos os pesos e medidas.

30 A nd to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even:

Além disso, deviam se apresentar todas as manhãs e todas as tardes para dar graças e louvar ao Senhor, e fazer o mesmo

31 A nd to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

sempre que holocaustos fossem apresentados ao Senhor nos sábados, nas festas da lua nova e nas festas fixas. Deviam servir regularmente diante do Senhor, conforme o número prescrito para eles.

32 A nd that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.

Dessa maneira os levitas ficaram responsáveis pela Tenda do Encontro, pelo Lugar Santo e, pela assistência aos seus irmãos, os descendentes de Arão, e pelo serviço do templo do Senhor.
