1 F urthermore Elihu answered and said,

Eliú continuou:

2 H ear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

“Ouçam as minhas palavras, vocês que são sábios; escutem-me, vocês que têm conhecimento.

3 F or the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

Pois o ouvido prova as palavras como a língua prova o alimento.

4 L et us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.

Tratemos de discernir juntos o que é certo e de aprender o que é bom.

5 F or Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

“Jó afirma: ‘Sou inocente, mas Deus me nega justiça.

6 S hould I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.

Apesar de eu estar certo, sou considerado mentiroso; apesar de estar sem culpa, sua flecha me causa ferida incurável’.

7 W hat man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

Que homem existe como Jó, que bebe zombaria como água?

8 W hich goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

Ele é companheiro dos que fazem o mal, e anda com os ímpios.

9 F or he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

Pois diz: ‘Não dá lucro agradar a Deus’.

10 T herefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

“Por isso escutem-me, vocês que têm conhecimento. Longe de Deus esteja o fazer o mal, e do Todo-poderoso o praticar a iniqüidade.

11 F or the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Ele retribui ao homem conforme o que este fez, e lhe dá o que a sua conduta merece.

12 Y ea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

Não se pode nem pensar que Deus faça o mal, que o Todo-poderoso perverta a justiça.

13 W ho hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

Quem o nomeou para governar a terra? Quem o encarregou de cuidar do mundo inteiro?

14 I f he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

Se fosse intenção dele, e de fato retirasse o seu espírito e o seu sopro,

15 A ll flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

a humanidade pereceria toda de uma vez, e o homem voltaria ao pó.

16 I f now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

“Portanto, se você tem entendimento, ouça-me, escute o que lhe digo.

17 S hall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

Acaso quem odeia a justiça poderá governar? Você ousará condenar aquele que é justo e poderoso?

18 I s it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

Não é ele que diz aos reis: ‘Vocês nada valem’, e aos nobres: ‘Vocês são ímpios’?

19 H ow much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

Não é verdade que ele não mostra parcialidade a favor dos príncipes, e não favorece o rico em detrimento do pobre, uma vez que todos são obra de suas mãos?

20 I n a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

Morrem num momento, em plena noite; cambaleiam e passam. Os poderosos são retirados sem a intervenção de mãos humanas.

21 F or his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

“Pois Deus vê o caminho dos homens; ele enxerga cada um dos seus passos.

22 T here is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

Não há sombra densa o bastante, onde os que fazem o mal possam esconder-se.

23 F or he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

Deus não precisa de maior tempo para examinar os homens e levá-los à sua presença para julgamento.

24 H e shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

Sem depender de investigações, ele destrói os poderosos e coloca outros em seu lugar.

25 T herefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

Visto que ele repara nos atos que eles praticam, derruba-os, e eles são esmagados.

26 H e striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

Pela impiedade deles, ele os castiga onde todos podem vê-los.

27 B ecause they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

Isso porque deixaram de segui-lo e não deram atenção aos caminhos por ele traçados.

28 S o that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

Fizeram chegar a ele o grito do pobre, e ele ouviu o clamor do necessitado.

29 W hen he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

Mas, se ele permanecer calado, quem poderá condená-lo? Se esconder o rosto, quem poderá vê-lo? No entanto, ele domina igualmente sobre homens e nações,

30 T hat the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

para evitar que o ímpio governe e prepare armadilhas para o povo.

31 S urely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

“Suponhamos que um homem diga a Deus: ‘Sou culpado, mas não vou mais pecar.

32 T hat which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

Mostra-me o que não estou vendo; se agi mal, não tornarei a fazê-lo’.

33 S hould it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

Quanto a você, deveria Deus recompensá-lo quando você nega a sua culpa? É você que deve decidir, não eu; conte-me, pois, o que você sabe.

34 L et men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

“Os homens de bom senso, os sábios que me ouvem, me declaram:

35 J ob hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

‘Jó não sabe o que diz; não há discernimento em suas palavras’.

36 M y desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

Ah, se Jó sofresse a mais dura prova, por sua resposta de ímpio!

37 F or he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

Ao seu pecado ele acrescenta a revolta; com desprezo bate palmas entre nós e multiplica suas palavras contra Deus”.
