1 A nd the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

A palavra do Senhor veio a mim. Disse ele:

2 S on of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

“Filho do homem, em que a madeira da videira é melhor do que o galho de qualquer árvore da floresta?

3 S hall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

Alguma vez a madeira dela é usada para fazer algo útil? Alguém faz suportes com ela para neles pendurar coisas?

4 B ehold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

E depois de lançada no fogo como combustível e o fogo queimar as duas extremidades e carbonizar o meio, servirá para alguma coisa?

5 B ehold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?

Se não foi útil para coisa alguma enquanto estava inteira, muito menos o será quando o fogo a queimar e ela estiver carbonizada.

6 T herefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

“Por isso diz o Soberano, o Senhor: Assim como destinei a madeira da videira dentre as árvores da floresta para servir de lenha para o fogo, também tratarei os habitantes de Jerusalém.

7 A nd I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.

Voltarei contra eles o meu rosto. Do fogo saíram, mas o fogo os consumirá. E quando eu voltar o meu rosto contra eles, vocês saberão que eu sou o Senhor.

8 A nd I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord God.

Arrasarei a terra porque eles foram infiéis. Palavra do Soberano, o Senhor ”.
