1 F or every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

Todo sumo sacerdote é escolhido dentre os homens e designado para representá-los em questões relacionadas com Deus e apresentar ofertas e sacrifícios pelos pecados.

2 W ho can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

Ele é capaz de se compadecer dos que não têm conhecimento e se desviam, visto que ele próprio está sujeito à fraqueza.

3 A nd by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

Por isso ele precisa oferecer sacrifícios por seus próprios pecados, bem como pelos pecados do povo.

4 A nd no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

Ninguém toma esta honra para si mesmo, mas deve ser chamado por Deus, como de fato o foi Arão.

5 S o also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

Da mesma forma, Cristo não tomou para si a glória de se tornar sumo sacerdote, mas Deus lhe disse: “Tu és meu Filho; eu hoje te gerei”.

6 A s he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

E diz noutro lugar: “Tu és sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque”.

7 W ho in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

Durante os seus dias de vida na terra, Jesus ofereceu orações e súplicas, em alta voz e com lágrimas, àquele que o podia salvar da morte, sendo ouvido por causa da sua reverente submissão.

8 T hough he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Embora sendo Filho, ele aprendeu a obedecer por meio daquilo que sofreu;

9 A nd being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

e, uma vez aperfeiçoado, tornou-se a fonte da salvação eterna para todos os que lhe obedecem,

10 C alled of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

sendo designado por Deus sumo sacerdote, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque. Advertência contra a Apostasia

11 O f whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

Quanto a isso, temos muito que dizer, coisas difíceis de explicar, porque vocês se tornaram lentos para aprender.

12 F or when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Embora a esta altura já devessem ser mestres, vocês precisam de alguém que lhes ensine novamente os princípios elementares da palavra de Deus. Estão precisando de leite, e não de alimento sólido!

13 F or every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

Quem se alimenta de leite ainda é criança, e não tem experiência no ensino da justiça.

14 B ut strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Mas o alimento sólido é para os adultos, os quais, pelo exercício constante, tornaram-se aptos para discernir tanto o bem quanto o mal.
