1 N ow Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.

Hirão, rei de Tiro, enviou a Davi uma delegação, que lhe trouxe toras de cedro, e também pedreiros e carpinteiros para lhe construírem um palácio.

2 A nd David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.

Então Davi teve certeza de que o Senhor o confirmara como rei de Israel e que estava fazendo prosperar o seu reino por amor de Israel, seu povo.

3 A nd David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.

Em Jerusalém Davi tomou para si mais mulheres e gerou mais filhos e filhas.

4 N ow these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

Estes são os nomes dos que lhe nasceram ali: Samua, Sobabe, Natã, Salomão,

5 A nd Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

Ibar, Elisua, Elpalete,

6 A nd Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

Nogá, Nefegue, Jafia,

7 A nd Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

8 A nd when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.

Quando os filisteus ficaram sabendo que Davi tinha sido ungido rei de todo o Israel, foram com todo o exército prendê-lo, mas Davi soube disso e saiu para enfrentá-los.

9 A nd the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

Tendo os filisteus invadido o vale de Refaim,

10 A nd David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

Davi perguntou a Deus: “Devo atacar os filisteus? Tu os entregarás nas minhas mãos?” O Senhor lhe respondeu: “Vá, eu os entregarei nas suas mãos”.

11 S o they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.

Então Davi e seus soldados foram a Baal-Perazim, e Davi os derrotou e disse: “Assim como as águas de uma enchente causam destruição, pelas minhas mãos Deus destruiu os meus inimigos”. E aquele lugar passou a ser chamado Baal-Perazim.

12 A nd when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

Como os filisteus haviam abandonado os seus ídolos ali, Davi ordenou que fossem queimados.

13 A nd the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.

Os filisteus voltaram a atacar o vale;

14 T herefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

de novo Davi consultou Deus, que lhe respondeu: “Não ataque pela frente, mas dê a volta por trás deles e ataque-os em frente das amoreiras.

15 A nd it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

Assim que você ouvir um som de passos por cima das amoreiras, saia para o combate, pois este é o sinal de que Deus saiu à sua frente para ferir o exército filisteu”.

16 D avid therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

E Davi fez como Deus lhe tinha ordenado, e eles derrotaram o exército filisteu por todo o caminho, desde Gibeom até Gezer.

17 A nd the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

Assim a fama de Davi espalhou-se por todas as terras, e o Senhor fez com que todas as nações o temessem.
