1 N ow concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

En cuanto a las cosas de que me escribisteis, bien le está al hombre no tocar mujer;

2 N evertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

pero a causa de las fornicaciones, cada uno tenga su propia mujer, y cada una tenga su propio marido.

3 L et the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

El marido cumpla con la mujer el deber conyugal, y asimismo la mujer con el marido.

4 T he wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

La mujer no tiene potestad sobre su propio cuerpo, sino el marido; ni tampoco tiene el marido potestad sobre su propio cuerpo, sino la mujer.

5 D efraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

No os privéis el uno del otro, a no ser por algún tiempo de común acuerdo, para ocuparos sosegadamente en la oración; y volved a juntaros en uno, para que no os tiente Satanás a causa de vuestra incontinencia.

6 B ut I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.

Mas esto lo digo por vía de concesión, no por mandamiento.

7 F or I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

Quisiera más bien que todos los hombres estuviesen como yo; pero cada uno tiene su propio don de Dios, uno de un modo, y otro de otro.

8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I.

Digo, pues, a los solteros y a las viudas, que les iría bien el quedarse como yo;

9 B ut if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

pero si no tienen don de continencia, cásense, pues mejor es casarse que estarse quemando.

10 A nd unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

Pero a los que están unidos en matrimonio, mando, no yo, sino el Señor: Que la mujer no se separe del marido;

11 B ut and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

y si se separa, quédese sin casar, o reconcíliese con su marido; y que el marido no abandone a su mujer.

12 B ut to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

Y a los demás yo digo, no el Señor: Si algún hermano tiene mujer que no sea creyente, y ella consiente en vivir con él, no la abandone.

13 A nd the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

Y si una mujer tiene marido que no sea creyente, y él consiente en vivir con ella, no lo abandone.

14 F or the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

Porque el marido incrédulo es santificado en la mujer, y la mujer incrédula en el marido; pues de otra manera vuestros hijos serían inmundos, mientras que ahora son santos.

15 B ut if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

Pero si el incrédulo se separa, que se separe; pues no está el hermano o la hermana sujeto a servidumbre en semejante caso, sino que a paz nos llamó Dios.

16 F or what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

Porque ¿qué sabes tú, oh mujer, si harás salvo a tu marido? ¿O qué sabes tú, oh marido, si harás salva a tu mujer?

17 B ut as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.

Fuera de esto, cada cual se comporte como el Señor le repartió, y como Dios llamó a cada uno; y así lo ordeno en todas las iglesias.

18 I s any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.

¿Fue llamado alguno siendo circunciso? Quédese circunciso. ¿Fue llamado alguno siendo incircunciso? No se circuncide.

19 C ircumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

La circuncisión es nada, y la incircuncisión es nada; lo que importa es la observancia de los mandamientos de Dios.

20 L et every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

Cada uno se quede en el estado en que fue llamado.

21 A rt thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

¿Fuiste llamado siendo esclavo? No te dé cuidado; pero también, si puedes hacerte libre, procúralo más.

22 F or he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.

Porque el que en el Señor fue llamado siendo esclavo, es liberto del Señor; asimismo el que fue llamado siendo libre, es esclavo de Cristo.

23 Y e are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.

Por precio fuisteis comprados; no os hagáis esclavos de los hombres.

24 B rethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

Cada uno, hermanos, en el estado en que fue llamado, así permanezca para con Dios.

25 N ow concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

En cuanto a las vírgenes, no tengo precepto del Señor; mas doy mi parecer, como quien ha alcanzado misericordia del Señor para ser fiel.

26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.

Tengo, pues, esto por bueno a causa del agobio inminente; que le irá bien al hombre en quedarse como está.

27 A rt thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

¿Estás ligado a mujer? No procures soltarte. ¿Estás libre de mujer? No procures casarte.

28 B ut and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

Mas también si te casas, no pecas; y si la doncella se casa, no peca; pero los tales tendrán aflicción de la carne, y yo os la quiero evitar.

29 B ut this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

Pero esto digo, hermanos: que el tiempo es limitado; resta, pues, que los que tienen esposa sean como si no la tuviesen;

30 A nd they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

y los que lloran, como si no llorasen; y los que se alegran, como si no se alegrasen; y los que compran, como si no poseyesen;

31 A nd they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

y los que disfrutan de este mundo, como si no lo disfrutasen; porque la apariencia de este mundo se pasa.

32 B ut I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

Deseo, pues, que estéis sin congoja. El soltero se preocupa por las cosas del Señor, de cómo agradar al Señor;

33 B ut he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

pero el casado se preocupa por las cosas del mundo, de cómo agradar a su mujer, y está dividido.

34 T here is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

Hay asimismo diferencia entre la casada y la doncella. La doncella se preocupa por las cosas del Señor, para ser santa así en cuerpo como en espíritu; pero la casada se preocupa por las cosas del mundo, de cómo agradar a su marido.

35 A nd this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

Esto lo digo para vuestro provecho; no para tenderos lazo, sino para lo honesto y para lo que facilita sin distracciones vuestro trato asiduo con el Señor.

36 B ut if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

Pero si alguno piensa que no se comporta decentemente con su hija doncella, si es de edad madura, y así debe hacerse, haga lo que quiera, no peca; que se casen.

37 N evertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.

Pero el que está firme en su corazón, sin tener necesidad, sino que es dueño de su propia voluntad, y ha resuelto en su corazón guardar a su hija doncella, hace bien.

38 S o then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.

De manera que el que la da en casamiento hace bien, y el que no la da en casamiento hace mejor.

39 T he wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

La mujer está ligada por la ley mientras su marido vive; pero si su marido muere, es libre para casarse con quien quiera, con tal que sea en el Señor.

40 B ut she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

Pero a mi juicio, será más dichosa si se queda así; y pienso que también yo tengo el Espíritu de Dios.
