1 S imon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado, por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo, una fe igualmente preciosa que la nuestra:

2 G race and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

Gracia y paz os sean multiplicadas, en el conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús. Partícipes de la naturaleza divina

3 A ccording as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Como todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia,

4 W hereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

por medio de las cuales nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas llegaseis a ser participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo a causa de la concupiscencia;

5 A nd beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

vosotros también, poniendo toda diligencia por esto mismo, añadid a vuestra fe virtud; a la virtud, conocimiento;

6 A nd to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

al conocimiento, dominio propio; al dominio propio, paciencia; a la paciencia, piedad;

7 A nd to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

a la piedad, afecto fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, amor.

8 F or if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Porque si estas cosas están en vosotros, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos ni sin fruto en orden al conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 B ut he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Pero el que carece de estas cosas, tiene la vista muy corta; es ciego, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.

10 W herefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Por lo cual, hermanos, sed tanto más diligentes en afianzar vuestro llamamiento y vuestra elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.

11 F or so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Porque de esta manera os será otorgada amplia entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

12 W herefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Por esto, no descuidaré el recordaros siempre estas cosas, aunque las sepáis, y estéis afianzados en la verdad presente.

13 Y ea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

Pues tengo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este cuerpo, el estimularos con este recuerdo;

14 K nowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

sabiendo que en breve debo abandonar el cuerpo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.

15 M oreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

También yo procuraré con diligencia que después de mi partida vosotros podáis en todo momento tener memoria de estas cosas. Testigos de la gloria de Cristo

16 F or we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Porque no os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo siguiendo fábulas ingeniosamente inventadas, sino como habiendo visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad.

17 F or he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Pues cuando él recibió de Dios Padre honor y gloria, le fue enviada desde la magnífica gloria una voz que decía: Éste es mi Hijo amado, en el cual he puesto mi complacencia.

18 A nd this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.

19 W e have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Y tenemos como más segura la palabra profética, a la cual hacéis bien en estar atentos como a una lámpara que alumbra en un lugar oscuro, hasta que despunte el día y el lucero de la mañana alboree en vuestros corazones;

20 K nowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

conociendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura procede de interpretación privada,

21 F or the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

porque nunca la profecía fue traída por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados por el Espíritu Santo.
