1 A nd Job answered and said,

Respondió entonces Job, diciendo:

2 N o doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

Ciertamente vosotros sois la gente importante, Y con vosotros morirá la sabiduría.

3 B ut I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

Pero también yo tengo entendimiento como vosotros; No soy yo menos que vosotros; ¿Y a quién se le ocultan estas cosas?

4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

Yo soy uno de quien su amigo se mofa, Que invoca a Dios, y él le responde; Con todo, el justo y perfecto es escarnecido.

5 H e that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

Aquel cuyos pies van a resbalar Es como una lámpara despreciada por aquel que está a sus anchas.

6 T he tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

Prosperan las tiendas de los ladrones, Y los que provocan a Dios viven seguros, Pensando que lo tienen en su puño.

7 B ut ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

Pero pregunta ahora a las bestias, y ellas te enseñarán; A las aves de los cielos, y ellas te informarán.

8 O r speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

O habla a la tierra, y ella te enseñará; Los peces del mar te lo declararán también.

9 W ho knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?

¿Qué cosa de todas éstas no entiende Que la mano de Jehová la hizo?

10 I n whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

En su mano está el alma de todo viviente, Y el hálito de todo el género humano.

11 D oth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

Ciertamente el oído distingue las palabras, Y el paladar gusta las viandas.

12 W ith the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

En los ancianos está la sabiduría, Y en la larga edad la inteligencia.

13 W ith him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

Con Dios está la sabiduría y el poder; Suyo es el consejo y la inteligencia.

14 B ehold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

Si él derriba, no hay quien edifique; Encerrará al hombre, y no habrá quien le abra.

15 B ehold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

Si él detiene las aguas, todo se seca; Si las suelta, destruyen la tierra.

16 W ith him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

Con él está la fuerza y la pericia; Suyo es el que yerra, y el que hace errar.

17 H e leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

Él hace andar despojados de consejo a los consejeros, Y entontece a los jueces.

18 H e looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

Él rompe las cadenas de los tiranos, Y les ata una soga a sus lomos.

19 H e leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

Él lleva despojados a los príncipes, Y abate a los poderosos.

20 H e removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

Priva del habla a los consejeros. Y quita a los ancianos la discreción.

21 H e poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

Él derrama menosprecio sobre los príncipes, Y desata el cinto de los fuertes.

22 H e discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

Él descubre las profundidades de las tinieblas. Y saca a luz la más densa oscuridad.

23 H e increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

Él engrandece a las naciones, y él las destruye; Desparrama a las naciones, y las vuelve a recoger.

24 H e taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

Él quita el entendimiento a los jefes del pueblo de la tierra, Y los hace vagar como por un yermo sin camino.

25 T hey grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

Van a tientas, como en tinieblas y sin luz, Y los hace tambalearse como borrachos.
