1 T hou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Tú, pues, hijo mío, revístete de poder en la gracia que es en Cristo Jesús.

2 A nd the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Y lo que has oído de mí ante muchos testigos, eso encarga a hombres fieles que serán idóneos para enseñar también a otros.

3 T hou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Tú, pues, sufre penalidades como buen soldado de Jesucristo.

4 N o man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Ninguno que está alistado como soldado se enreda en los negocios de la vida, a fin de agradar a aquel que lo tomó por soldado.

5 A nd if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Y también el que lucha como atleta, no es coronado si no lucha de acuerdo con las normas.

6 T he husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

El labrador que se esfuerza, debe ser el primero en participar de los frutos.

7 C onsider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

Considera lo que digo, y el Señor te dé entendimiento en todo.

8 R emember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

Acuérdate de Jesucristo, del linaje de David, resucitado de los muertos conforme a mi evangelio,

9 W herein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

en el cual sufro penalidades, hasta prisiones como un malhechor; mas la palabra de Dios no está presa.

10 T herefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Por tanto, todo lo soporto por amor a los escogidos, para que también ellos obtengan la salvación que es en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna.

11 I t is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

Palabra fiel es esta: Que si somos muertos con él, también viviremos con él;

12 I f we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Si sufrimos, también reinaremos con él; Si le negamos, él también nos negará.

13 I f we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Si somos infieles, él permanece fiel; No puede negarse a sí mismo. El obrero aprobado

14 O f these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

Recuérdales esto, conjurándoles delante del Señor a que no contiendan sobre palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha, sino que es para perdición de los oyentes.

15 S tudy to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Procura con diligencia presentarte a Dios aprobado, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que traza rectamente la palabra de verdad.

16 B ut shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Mas evita profanas y vanas palabrerías, porque conducirán más y más a la impiedad.

17 A nd their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

Y su palabra se extenderá como gangrena; de los cuales son Himeneo y Fileto,

18 W ho concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

que se desviaron de la verdad, diciendo que la resurrección ya se efectuó, y trastornan la fe de algunos.

19 N evertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Sin embargo, el fundamento de Dios está firme, teniendo este sello: El Señor conoce a los que son suyos; y: Apártese de iniquidad todo aquel que invoca el nombre de Cristo.

20 B ut in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

Pero en una casa grande, no solamente hay utensilios de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro; y unos son para usos honrosos, y otros para usos viles.

21 I f a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Así que, si alguno se limpia de estas cosas, será utensilio para honra, santificado, útil para el Dueño, y dispuesto para toda buena obra.

22 F lee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Huye también de las pasiones juveniles, y sigue la justicia, la fe, el amor y la paz, con los que de corazón limpio invocan al Señor.

23 B ut foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

Pero desecha las discusiones necias e insensatas, sabiendo que engendran altercados.

24 A nd the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Porque el siervo del Señor no debe ser pendenciero, sino amable para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido;

25 I n meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

que con mansedumbre corrija a los que se oponen, por si quizá Dios les conceda el arrepentimiento que conduce al pleno conocimiento de la verdad,

26 A nd that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

y vuelvan al buen sentido, escapando del lazo del diablo, que los tiene cautivos, para hacer su voluntad.
