1 T hus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

El Señor Jehová me hizo ver esto: He aquí que él criaba langostas cuando comenzaba a crecer el heno tardío, el heno tardío después de las siegas del rey.

2 A nd it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Y aconteció que cuando acabaron de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Señor Jehová, perdona ahora; ¿quién sostendrá a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

3 T he Lord repented for this: It shall not be, saith the Lord.

Se arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será así, dijo Jehová.

4 T hus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

Jehová el Señor me hizo ver esto: He aquí que el Señor Jehová convocaba para castigar por fuego; y consumió el gran abismo, y consumió también una parte de la tierra.

5 T hen said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

Y dije: Señor Jehová, cesa ahora; ¿quién sostendrá a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

6 T he Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.

Se arrepintió Jehová de esto, y dijo Jehová el Señor: No será esto tampoco.

7 T hus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

Me enseñó luego esto: He aquí que el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho a plomo, y tenía en su mano una plomada de albañil.

8 A nd the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

Jehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Yo respondí: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo la plomada en medio de mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré más.

9 A nd the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Los lugares altos de Isaac serán destruidos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados, y me alzaré con la espada contra la casa de Jeroboam. Amós y Amasías

10 T hen Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

Entonces el sacerdote Amasías de Betel envió a decir a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: Amós se ha levantado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel; la tierra no puede soportar todas sus palabras.

11 F or thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

Porque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá a espada, e Israel será llevado de su tierra en cautiverio.

12 A lso Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

Y Amasías dijo a Amós: Vidente, vete, huye a la tierra de Judá, y come allí tu pan, y profetiza allí;

13 B ut prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

y no profetices más en Betel, porque es santuario del rey, y capital del reino.

14 T hen answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

Entonces respondió Amós, y dijo a Amasías: No soy profeta, ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero, y cultivador de sicómoros.

15 A nd the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Y Jehová me tomó de detrás del ganado, y me dijo: Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel.

16 N ow therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

Ahora, pues, escucha una palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel, ni vaticines contra la casa de Isaac.

17 T herefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

Pues bien, así dice Jehová: Tu mujer será obligada a prostituirse en medio de la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a espada, y tu tierra será repartida por suertes; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, e Israel será llevado cautivo lejos de su tierra.
