1 P alabra que habló Jehová contra Babilonia, contra la tierra de los caldeos, por medio del profeta Jeremías:

The word that the Lord spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

2 « Anunciadlo en las naciones, hacedlo saber; levantad también bandera, publicadlo y no lo encubráis; decid: “¡Conquistada ha sido Babilonia! ¡Bel está avergonzado! ¡Merodac está deshecho, destruidas sus esculturas, destrozados sus ídolos!”

Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

3 ¡ Porque ha subido contra ella una nación del norte!, que hará de su tierra un objeto de espanto. No habrá hombre ni animal que en ella more; todos han huido, se han marchado.

For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.

4 » En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo, dice Jehová, vendrán los hijos de Israel, ellos y los hijos de Judá juntamente. Irán andando y llorando, y buscarán a Jehová, su Dios.

In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the Lord their God.

5 P reguntarán por el camino de Sión, hacia donde volverán sus rostros, diciendo: “¡Venid y unámonos a Jehová con un pacto eterno que jamás se eche en el olvido!”

They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

6 » Como ovejas perdidas era mi pueblo: sus pastores las extraviaron, por los montes las descarriaron; anduvieron de monte en collado y se olvidaron de sus rediles.

My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

7 T odos los hallaban, los devoraban; decían sus enemigos: “No pecaremos, porque ellos pecaron contra Jehová, morada de justicia, contra Jehová, esperanza de sus padres.”

All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of justice, even the Lord, the hope of their fathers.

8 » ¡Huid de en medio de Babilonia, salid de la tierra de los caldeos, sed como los machos cabríos que van delante del rebaño!

Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

9 P orque yo levanto y hago subir contra Babilonia una reunión de grandes pueblos de la tierra del norte; desde allí se prepararán contra ella, y será conquistada. Sus flechas son como las de un valiente experto, que no volverá vacío.

For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

10 Y Caldea será para botín; todos los que la saqueen se saciarán, dice Jehová.

And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the Lord.

11 » Cómo os alegrasteis, cómo os gozasteis destruyendo mi heredad, cómo os llenasteis cual novilla sobre la hierba y relinchasteis cual los caballos.

Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

12 V uestra madre se avergonzó mucho; confundida quedó la que os dio a luz; será la última de las naciones, convertida en desierto, sequedal y páramo.

Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

13 P or la ira de Jehová no será habitada, sino que será asolada por completo. Todo aquel que pase por Babilonia se asombrará y se burlará de sus calamidades.

Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

14 ¡ Poneos en orden contra Babilonia, rodeadla todos los que tensáis arco! ¡Tirad contra ella y no escatiméis las flechas, porque pecó contra Jehová!

Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the Lord.

15 ¡ Gritad contra ella, a su alrededor! ¡Se rindió, han caído sus cimientos, derribados son sus muros! ¡Ésta es la venganza de Jehová! ¡Tomad venganza de ella; haced con ella como ella os hizo!

Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.

16 D estruid en Babilonia al que siembra y al que mete la hoz en el tiempo de la siega. Ante la espada destructora, cada cual volverá el rostro hacia su pueblo, cada cual huirá hacia su tierra.

Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

17 » Rebaño descarriado es Israel; leones lo dispersaron. »Primero lo devoró el rey de Asiria; Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia lo deshuesó después.

Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

18 P or tanto, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Yo castigo al rey de Babilonia y a su tierra, como castigué al rey de Asiria.

Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

19 » Volveré a traer a Israel a su pastizal; pacerá en el Carmelo y en Basán, y en los montes de Efraín y en Galaad se saciará su alma.

And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

20 E n aquellos días y en aquel tiempo, dice Jehová, la maldad de Israel será buscada, y no aparecerá; y los pecados de Judá, y no se hallarán; porque perdonaré a los que yo haya dejado.

In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

21 » ¡Sube contra la tierra de Merataim, contra ella y contra los moradores de Pecod! ¡Destruye y mata en pos de ellos, dice Jehová, y haz conforme a todo lo que yo te he mandado!»

Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

22 ¡ Estruendo de guerra se oye en la tierra, y de gran quebrantamiento!

A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

23 ¡ Cómo fue cortado y quebrado el martillo de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo se convirtió Babilonia en objeto de espanto entre las naciones!

How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

24 « Te puse lazos, y sin darte cuenta caíste en ellos, Babilonia; fuiste hallada, y aun apresada, porque provocaste a Jehová.»

I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the Lord.

25 A brió Jehová su tesoro y sacó los instrumentos de su furor; porque ésta es obra de Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos, en la tierra de los caldeos.

The Lord hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord God of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

26 V enid contra ella desde el extremo de la tierra, abrid sus almacenes, convertidla en un montón de ruinas y destruidla. ¡Que no le quede nada!

Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.

27 M atad a todos sus novillos; que vayan al matadero. ¡Ay de ellos, pues ha venido su día, el tiempo de su castigo!

Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

28 S e oye la voz de los que huyen y escapan de la tierra de Babilonia, para dar en Sión las noticias de la retribución de Jehová, nuestro Dios, de la venganza de su Templo.

The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his temple.

29 « Juntad flecheros contra Babilonia, a todos los que tensan arco; acampad alrededor de ella, y que de ella no escape nadie. Pagadle según su obra; conforme a todo lo que ella hizo, haced con ella, porque contra Jehová se ensoberbeció, contra el Santo de Israel.

Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.

30 P or eso, sus jóvenes caerán en sus plazas, y todos sus hombres de guerra serán destruidos en aquel día, dice Jehová.

Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord.

31 » Nación soberbia, yo estoy contra ti, dice el Señor, Jehová de los ejércitos; porque tu día ha venido, el tiempo en que te castigaré.

Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

32 L a nación soberbia tropezará y caerá, y no tendrá quien la levante. Prenderé fuego en sus ciudades y quemaré todos sus alrededores.

And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

33 » Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Oprimidos fueron los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá juntamente; todos los que los tomaron cautivos los retuvieron y no los quisieron soltar.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

34 E l redentor de ellos es el Fuerte (Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre). De cierto defenderá la causa de ellos, para hacer que repose la tierra y que se turben los moradores de Babilonia.

Their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

35 » Espada contra los caldeos, dice Jehová, y contra los moradores de Babilonia, contra sus príncipes y contra sus sabios.

A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

36 E spada contra los adivinos, y se entontecerán; espada contra sus valientes, y serán quebrantados.

A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

37 E spada contra sus caballos, contra sus carros y contra todo el pueblo que está en medio de ella, y serán como mujeres; espada contra sus tesoros, y serán saqueados.

A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

38 S equedad sobre sus aguas, y se secarán; porque es tierra de ídolos, y se entontecen con sus ídolos grotescos.

A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

39 » Por tanto, allí morarán fieras del desierto y chacales; morarán también en ella polluelos de avestruz; nunca más será poblada ni se habitará por generaciones y generaciones.

Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.

40 C omo en la destrucción que Dios hizo de Sodoma y de Gomorra y de sus ciudades vecinas, dice Jehová, así nadie morará allí, ningún ser humano habitará en ella.

As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

41 » Viene un pueblo del norte, una gran nación, y muchos reyes se levantarán de los extremos de la tierra.

Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

42 A rco y lanza manejarán; serán crueles y no tendrán compasión. Su voz rugirá como el mar, y montarán a caballo. ¡Se prepararán contra ti como hombres a la pelea, hija de Babilonia!

They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

43 O yó la noticia el rey de Babilonia y sus manos se debilitaron; angustia lo tomó, dolor como el de una mujer de parto.

The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

44 » Ciertamente yo, como león que sube de la espesura del Jordán al verde prado, muy pronto los haré huir de ella, y pondré en ella al que yo escoja, porque ¿quién es semejante a mí? ¿Quién me emplazará? ¿Quién será el pastor que pueda resistirme?

Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

45 P or tanto, oíd el plan que Jehová ha acordado contra Babilonia, y las decisiones que ha tomado contra la tierra de los caldeos: Ciertamente, arrastrarán a los más pequeños de su rebaño y los destruirán junto con sus pastizales.

Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

46 A l grito de la conquista de Babilonia la tierra tembló, y el clamor se oyó entre las naciones.»

At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
