My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2 G uarda mis mandamientos y vivirás, y guarda mi enseñanza como a la niña de tus ojos.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

3 Á talos a tus dedos, escríbelos en la tabla de tu corazón.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

4 D i a la sabiduría: “Tú eres mi hermana”, y llama parienta a la inteligencia,

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

5 p ara que te guarden de la mujer ajena, de la extraña que suaviza sus palabras.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

6 » Miraba yo por la ventana de mi casa, a través de mi celosía,

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

7 c uando vi entre los ingenuos, observé entre los jóvenes, a un joven falto de sensatez.

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

8 P asaba él por la calle, junto a la esquina, e iba camino de la casa de ella,

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9 a l atardecer, cuando ya oscurecía y caía la oscuridad y las tinieblas de la noche.

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

10 » En esto, una mujer le sale al encuentro, con atavío de ramera y astucia en el corazón.

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

11 A lborotadora y pendenciera, sus pies no pueden estar en casa.

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

12 U nas veces está en la calle, otras veces en las plazas, al acecho en todas las esquinas.

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13 S e asió de él y lo besó. Con semblante descarado le dijo:

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

14 “ Sacrificios de paz había prometido, y hoy he cumplido mis votos;

I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

15 p or eso he salido a encontrarte, buscando con ansia tu rostro, y te he hallado.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16 H e adornado mi cama con colchas recamadas con lino de Egipto;

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17 h e perfumado mi lecho con mirra, áloes y canela.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 V en, embriaguémonos de amor hasta la mañana; disfrutemos de amores.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

19 P orque mi marido no está en casa; se ha ido a un largo viaje.

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

20 L a bolsa del dinero se llevó en la mano, y no volverá a su casa hasta la luna llena.”

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

21 » Así lo rindió, con la suavidad de sus muchas palabras, y lo sedujo con la zalamería de sus labios.

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22 A l punto se marchó tras ella, como va el buey al degolladero o como va el necio a prisión para ser castigado;

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

23 c omo el ave que se arroja contra la red, sin saber que va a perder la vida hasta que la saeta traspasa su corazón.

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

24 » Ahora pues, hijos, escuchadme; estad atentos a las razones de mi boca:

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 N o se desvíe tu corazón a los caminos de ella; no yerres en sus veredas,

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

26 p orque a muchos ha hecho caer heridos, y aun los más fuertes han sido muertos por ella.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

27 C amino del seol es su casa, que conduce a las cámaras de la muerte.»

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
