1 H ijo mío, obedece mis palabras, y guarda como un tesoro mis mandamientos.

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2 O bedece mis mandamientos y enseñanzas; cuídalos como las niñas de tus ojos, y vivirás.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

3 Á talos alrededor de tus dedos; anótalos en la pizarra de tu corazón.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

4 D ile a la sabiduría: «¡Hermana mía!» Declárate pariente de la inteligencia.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

5 E llas te protegerán de la mujer ajena, de esa extraña de melosas palabras.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

6 U n día estaba yo en la ventana de mi casa, y miraba a través de la celosía.

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

7 O bservaba yo a los jóvenes incautos, y me llamó la atención uno de ellos, claramente falto de entendimiento,

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

8 q ue cruzó la calle, dobló la esquina, y se dirigió a la casa de esa mujer.

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9 E ra tarde, y comenzaba a oscurecer; las sombras de la noche comenzaban a caer.

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

10 D e pronto, esa mujer salió a su encuentro, vestida como ramera y con claras intenciones:

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

11 E ra provocativa y desafiante, de esas que no pueden poner un pie en su casa.

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

12 U nas veces en la calle, otras veces en las plazas, y en constante acecho en las esquinas.

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13 S e prendió de él, le dio un beso, y descaradamente le propuso:

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

14 « Yo había prometido sacrificios de paz, y hoy he cumplido con mis votos.

I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

15 ¡ Por eso he salido a tu encuentro! ¡Ansiaba verte, y he dado contigo!

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16 M i lecho lo he cubierto con finas colchas, colchas recamadas con hilo egipcio.

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

17 M i alcoba la he perfumado Con mirra, áloes y canela.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 ¡ Ven, embriaguémonos de amores! ¡Gocemos del amor hasta el amanecer!

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

19 M i marido no está en casa, pues salió para hacer un largo viaje.

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

20 S e llevó la bolsa de dinero, y no volverá hasta el día señalado.»

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

21 L a mujer lo venció con sus muchas lisonjas; lo persuadió con sus labios zalameros,

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22 y el joven se fue enseguida tras ella, como el buey que va al degolladero; como el necio que preso avanza al castigo,

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

23 h asta que una flecha le parte el corazón; como el ave que vuela presurosa hacia la red, sin saber que eso le costará la vida.

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

24 H ijos, por favor, ¡escúchenme! ¡Presten atención a mis declaraciones!

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 N o inclines tu corazón hacia sus caminos; no pierdas el rumbo por sus atajos.

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

26 P or su culpa, muchos han caído heridos; aun los más fuertes han muerto por causa de ella.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

27 S u casa va camino al sepulcro, y desciende a las mansiones de la muerte.

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
