1 H ermanos, no quiero que ignoren que todos nuestros antepasados estuvieron bajo la nube, y que todos cruzaron el mar.

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 T odos ellos, en unión con Moisés, fueron bautizados en la nube y en el mar.

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 T ambién todos ellos comieron el mismo alimento espiritual,

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 y todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, porque bebían de la roca espiritual que los seguía, la cual era Cristo.

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 P ero la mayoría de ellos no agradó a Dios, y por eso quedaron tendidos en el desierto.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 P ero todo esto sucedió como un ejemplo para nosotros, a fin de que no codiciemos cosas malas, como ellos lo hicieron.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 N o sean idólatras, como lo fueron algunos de ellos, según está escrito: «El pueblo se sentó a comer y a beber, y luego se levantó a divertirse.»

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 N o caigamos en la inmoralidad sexual, como lo hicieron algunos de ellos, y por lo cual en un solo día murieron veintitrés mil.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 T ampoco pongamos a prueba a Cristo, como también algunos de ellos lo hicieron, y murieron por causa de las serpientes.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 N i murmuren, como algunos de ellos lo hicieron, y perecieron a manos del destructor.

Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 T odo esto les sucedió como ejemplo, y quedó escrito como advertencia para nosotros, los que vivimos en los últimos tiempos.

Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 A sí que, el que crea estar firme, tenga cuidado de no caer.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 A ustedes no les ha sobrevenido ninguna tentación que no sea humana; pero Dios es fiel y no permitirá que ustedes sean sometidos a una prueba más allá de lo que puedan resistir, sino que junto con la prueba les dará la salida, para que puedan sobrellevarla.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 P or tanto, amados míos, huyan de la idolatría.

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15 L es hablo como a personas sensatas; juzguen ustedes mismos lo que digo.

I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

16 L a copa de bendición por la cual damos gracias, ¿no es la comunión de la sangre de Cristo? Y el pan que partimos, ¿no es la comunión del cuerpo de Cristo?

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

17 H ay un solo pan, del cual todos participamos; por eso, aunque somos muchos, conformamos un solo cuerpo.

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

18 F íjense en el pueblo de Israel; los que comen de los animales que se ofrendan, son partícipes del altar.

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

19 ¿ Qué quiero decir con esto? ¿Que el ídolo o los animales que se ofrendan a los ídolos son algo?

What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

20 L o que quiero decir es que los animales que ofrecen los no judíos, se ofrecen a los demonios, y no a Dios; y yo no quiero que ustedes tengan algo que ver con los demonios.

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

21 U stedes no pueden beber de la copa del Señor, y también de la copa de los demonios; no pueden participar de la mesa del Señor, y también de la mesa de los demonios.

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

22 ¿ O vamos a provocar a celos al Señor? ¿Acaso somos más fuertes que él? Todo sea para la gloria de Dios

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

23 T odo me está permitido, pero no todo es provechoso; todo me está permitido, pero no todo edifica.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

24 N inguno debe buscar su propio bien, sino el bien del otro.

Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

25 U stedes coman de todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, y no pregunten nada por motivos de conciencia,

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

26 p orque del Señor es la tierra y su plenitud.

For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

27 S i algún incrédulo los invita, y ustedes aceptan la invitación, vayan y coman de todo lo que se les ofrezca, y no pregunten nada por motivos de conciencia.

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

28 P ero si alguien les dice: «Esto fue sacrificado a los ídolos», no lo coman, por causa de aquel que lo dijo y por motivos de conciencia.

But if any man say unto you, this is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

29 C laro que me refiero a la conciencia del otro, no a la tuya. Pues ¿por qué se habría de juzgar mi libertad por la conciencia de otro?

Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

30 Y si yo participo de la comida y doy gracias a Dios, ¿por qué he de ser censurado por aquello por lo cual doy gracias?

For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

31 A sí que, si ustedes comen o beben, o hacen alguna otra cosa, háganlo todo para la gloria de Dios.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

32 N o sean motivo de tropiezo para los judíos ni para los no judíos, ni para la iglesia de Dios.

Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

33 H agan lo que yo, que procuro agradar a todos en todo, y no busco mi propio beneficio sino el de muchos, para que sean salvos.

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
