1 » Les he dicho estas cosas, para que no tengan tropiezos.

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

2 U stedes serán expulsados de las sinagogas, y llegará el momento en que cualquiera que los mate, pensará que rinde un servicio a Dios.

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

3 Y esto lo harán porque no conocen al Padre ni a mí.

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

4 P ero les he dicho estas cosas para que, cuando llegue ese momento, se acuerden de que ya se lo había dicho. La obra del Espíritu Santo »No les dije esto al principio, porque yo estaba con ustedes.

But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

5 P ero ahora vuelvo al que me envió; y ninguno de ustedes me pregunta: “¿A dónde vas?”

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6 A l contrario, por esto que les he dicho, su corazón se ha llenado de tristeza.

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7 P ero les digo la verdad: les conviene que yo me vaya; porque si no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a ustedes; pero si me voy, yo se lo enviaré.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 D e pecado, por cuanto no creen en mí;

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 d e justicia, por cuanto voy al Padre, y no me verán más;

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 y de juicio, por cuanto el príncipe de este mundo ya ha sido juzgado.

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 » Aún tengo muchas cosas que decirles, pero ahora no las pueden sobrellevar.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 P ero cuando venga el Espíritu de verdad, él los guiará a toda la verdad; porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y les hará saber las cosas que habrán de venir.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 É l me glorificará, porque tomará de lo mío y se lo hará saber.

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 T odo lo que tiene el Padre es mío; por eso dije que tomará de lo mío, y se lo dará a conocer a ustedes.

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

16 T odavía un poco, y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán.» La tristeza se convertirá en gozo

A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

17 E ntonces algunos de sus discípulos se dijeron unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto que nos dice: “Todavía un poco y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán”; y también, “porque yo voy al Padre”?»

Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

18 A sí que decían: «¿Qué es esto de “Todavía un poco”? ¡No sabemos de qué habla!»

They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

19 J esús se dio cuenta de que querían preguntarle, así que les dijo: «¿Se preguntan ustedes acerca de que dije: “Todavía un poco, y no me verán; y de nuevo un poco, y me verán”?

Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

20 D e cierto, de cierto les digo, que ustedes llorarán y lamentarán, mientras que el mundo se alegrará; pero aunque ustedes estén tristes, su tristeza se convertirá en gozo.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21 C uando la mujer da a luz, siente dolor porque ha llegado su hora; pero después de que ha dado a luz al niño, ni se acuerda de la angustia, por la alegría de que haya nacido un hombre en el mundo.

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22 T ambién ustedes ahora están tristes; pero yo los volveré a ver, y su corazón se alegrará, y nadie les arrebatará su alegría.

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

23 E n aquel día ya no me preguntarán nada. De cierto, de cierto les digo, que todo lo que pidan al Padre, en mi nombre, él se lo concederá.

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 H asta ahora nada han pedido en mi nombre; pidan y recibirán, para que su alegría se vea cumplida. Yo he vencido al mundo

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

25 » Les he hablado de esto en alegorías, pero viene la hora en que ya no les hablaré por alegorías, sino que claramente les anunciaré acerca del Padre.

These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

26 E n aquel día ustedes pedirán en mi nombre; y no les digo que yo rogaré al Padre por ustedes,

At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 p ues el Padre mismo los ama, porque ustedes me han amado y han creído que yo salí de Dios.

For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28 S alí del Padre, y he venido al mundo; otra vez dejo el mundo, y voy al Padre.»

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

29 S us discípulos le dijeron: «Ahora hablas claramente, y ya no dices ninguna alegoría.

His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

30 A hora entendemos que sabes todas las cosas, y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto creemos que has salido de Dios.»

Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

31 J esús les respondió: «¿Ahora creen?

Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

32 L a hora viene, y ya ha llegado, en que ustedes serán esparcidos, cada uno por su lado; y me dejarán solo. Pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

33 E stas cosas les he hablado para que en mí tengan paz. En el mundo tendrán aflicción; pero confíen, yo he vencido al mundo.»

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
