The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2 L as riquezas malvadas no son de provecho, pero la justicia libra de la muerte.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3 E l Señor no deja que el justo pase hambre, pero rechaza la iniquidad de los impíos.

The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4 L as manos negligentes llevan a la pobreza; las manos diligentes conducen a la riqueza.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5 C osechar en el verano es pensar con sensatez; Dormirse en la cosecha es no tener vergüenza.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6 L a cabeza del justo se cubre de bendiciones; la boca de los impíos encubre violencia.

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7 R ecordar a los justos es una bendición; nombrar a los impíos resulta repugnante.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

8 E l sabio de corazón hace suyos los mandamientos; el necio de labios acabará por caer.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

9 E l de vida íntegra vive confiado; el de conducta perversa será descubierto.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10 E l que guiña el ojo acarrea tristeza; el necio de labios será castigado.

He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

11 L a boca del justo es un manantial de vida, pero la boca del impío disimula su violencia.

The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

12 E l odio despierta rencillas; pero el amor cubre todas las faltas.

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

13 L a sabiduría se halla en labios del prudente; la vara es para las espaldas del falto de cordura.

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14 L os sabios atesoran el conocimiento; la boca del necio es calamidad cercana.

Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

15 E l rico se atrinchera tras sus riquezas; el pobre se refugia en su pobreza.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16 C on sus obras, el justo se gana la vida; con sus frutos, el impío se dedica a pecar.

The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

17 A catar la corrección conduce a la vida; desechar la reprensión es perder el camino.

He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

18 M iente quien disimula su odio; es un necio quien propaga calumnias.

He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

19 E n las muchas palabras no falta el pecado; el que es prudente refrena sus labios.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

20 L a lengua del justo es plata escogida; la mente impía es lo mismo que nada.

The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

21 C on sus labios el justo dirige a muchos; los necios mueren por falta de cordura.

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

22 L a bendición del Señor es un tesoro; nunca viene acompañada de tristeza.

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

23 E l necio se divierte cometiendo maldades; el sabio se recrea con la sabiduría.

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

24 E l impío es víctima de sus grandes temores; los justos reciben lo que más desean.

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

25 E l malvado pasa como un torbellino, pero el justo permanece para siempre.

As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

26 E l que envía a un mensajero perezoso se echa vinagre en los dientes y humo en los ojos.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 E l temor del Señor alarga la vida, pero los años del impío son acortados.

The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

28 L a esperanza de los justos es su alegría; la esperanza de los impíos se esfuma.

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 E l camino del Señor fortalece al perfecto, pero destruye a los que hacen el mal.

The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

30 E l justo jamás tendrá un tropiezo, pero los impíos no habitarán la tierra.

The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

31 D e la boca del justo mana sabiduría, pero la lengua perversa será extirpada.

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

32 L os labios del justo dicen palabras gratas; la boca de los impíos arroja perversidades.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
