1 H ijo mío, no te olvides de mi ley; guarda en tu corazón mis mandamientos.

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

2 E llos prolongarán los años de tu vida y te traerán abundante paz.

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

3 N o te apartes de la misericordia y la verdad; átalas alrededor de tu cuello, escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

4 A sí contarás con el favor de Dios, y con una buena opinión ante los hombres.

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

5 C onfía en el Señor de todo corazón, y no te apoyes en tu propia prudencia.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 R econócelo en todos tus caminos, y él enderezará tus sendas.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7 N o seas sabio en tu propia opinión; teme al Señor y apártate del mal.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

8 É l será la medicina de tu cuerpo; ¡infundirá alivio a tus huesos!

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

9 H onra al Señor con tus bienes y con las primicias de tus cosechas.

Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 T us graneros se saturarán de trigo, y tus lagares rebosarán de vino.

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

11 H ijo mío, no desdeñes la corrección del Señor; no te sientas mal cuando te reprenda.

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

12 E l Señor corrige al que ama como lo hace el padre con su hijo amado.

For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

13 ¡ Dichoso el que halla la sabiduría y se encuentra con la inteligencia!

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

14 ¡ Son más provechosas que la plata! ¡Sus frutos son más valiosos que el oro refinado!

For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15 S on de más valor que las piedras preciosas; lo más deseable no es comparable a ellas.

She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16 C on la mano derecha ofrece una larga vida, y con la izquierda ofrece riquezas y honra.

Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

17 S us caminos son un deleite, y en todas sus veredas hay paz.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 L a sabiduría es un árbol de vida para los que echan mano de ella; ¡dichosos los que no la sueltan!

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

19 C on sabiduría, el Señor fundó la tierra; con inteligencia, el Señor afirmó los cielos.

The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

20 C on su sapiencia se abrieron los abismos, y destilaron las nubes su rocío.

By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

21 H ijo mío, preserva la ley y el consejo; nunca pierdas esto de vista.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

22 É stos infundirán vida a tu alma y adornarán tu cuello.

So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

23 A sí podrás andar confiado en tu camino, y nunca tus pies tropezarán.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

24 N o tendrás temor cuando te acuestes; te acostarás y tendrás gratos sueños.

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

25 N o temerás que de repente te asalten las calamidades que merecen los impíos.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

26 E l Señor te infundirá confianza, y evitará que tus pies queden atrapados.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

27 N o te niegues a hacer los favores debidos, cuando en tu mano esté el hacerlos.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

28 S i hoy puedes ayudar a tu prójimo, no pospongas la ayuda para mañana.

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

29 N o hagas planes malvados contra tu prójimo; es tu prójimo y vive confiando en ti.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

30 N o entables sin motivo pleitos contra nadie, mucho menos si no te han agraviado.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

31 N o envidies a la gente violenta, ni escojas ninguno de sus caminos,

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

32 p orque al Señor le repugnan los perversos, pero es amigo de los hombres honrados.

For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

33 S obre la casa de los malvados recae la maldición del Señor; sobre la habitación de los justos permanece su bendición.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

34 E l Señor se burla de los burlones, pero brinda su favor a los humildes.

Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

35 L a herencia de los sabios es la honra; la de los necios, la deshonra.

The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
