1 ¿ Acaso no está llamando la sabiduría? ¿Qué, no deja oír su voz la inteligencia?

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2 S e para en las colinas, junto al camino; se queda esperando en las encrucijadas.

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3 D eja oír su voz a un lado de las puertas; a la entrada misma de la ciudad exclama:

She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4 « A ustedes, los hombres, los llamo; a ustedes, los hombres, dirijo mi voz.

Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

5 M uchachos ingenuos, ¡entiendan! Jóvenes necios, ¡recapaciten!

O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6 ¡ Óiganme, que lo que voy a decirles son cosas muy justas e importantes.

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7 D e mi boca sólo sale la verdad; mis labios aborrecen la mentira.

For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 T odas mis palabras son precisas; no hay en ellas dolo ni perversidad.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9 P ara los sabios y entendidos, todas ellas son contundentes y razonables.

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 D en cabida a mis correcciones, no a la plata; acepten mis conocimientos, no el oro escogido.

Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 Y o, la sabiduría, valgo más que las piedras preciosas! ¡Ni lo más deseable puede compararse conmigo!

For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 » Yo, la sabiduría, convivo con la cordura; en mí se hallan el conocimiento y el consejo.

I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 E l temor del Señor es aborrecer el mal; yo aborrezco la soberbia y la arrogancia, el mal camino y la boca perversa.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 E n mí se hallan el consejo y el buen juicio; yo soy la inteligencia; mío es el poder.

Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 P or mí llegan los reyes al trono y los príncipes imparten justicia.

By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 P or mí gobiernan los jefes y príncipes, y todos los que rigen con justicia.

By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 Y o amo a los que me aman, y dejo que me hallen los que en verdad me buscan.

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18 L as riquezas y la honra me acompañan, las verdaderas riquezas y la justicia.

Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19 M is frutos son mejores que el oro más refinado; mis ganancias sobrepasan a la plata escogida.

My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20 Y o voy por el camino recto; camino por las sendas de la justicia,

I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21 p ara dar su herencia a los que me aman, para saturarlos de tesoros.

That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22 » Desde el principio, el Señor me poseía; desde antes de que empezara sus obras.

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 D esde el principio mismo fui establecida, desde antes de que la tierra existiera.

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 F ui engendrada antes de los abismos, antes de que existieran los grandes manantiales.

When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 F ui engendrada antes de que se formaran los montes y las colinas.

Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 A ún no había creado él la tierra ni los campos, ni los primeros granos de arena del mundo,

While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27 ¡ y ya estaba yo ahí! Mientras él formaba los cielos y trazaba el arco sobre la faz del abismo,

When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 m ientras afirmaba las nubes en las alturas, mientras reforzaba las fuentes del abismo,

When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 m ientras establecía los límites del mar para que las aguas no traspasaran su cauce, ¡mientras afirmaba los fundamentos de la tierra!

When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Y o estaba a su lado, ordenándolo todo, danzando alegremente todos los días, disfrutando siempre de su presencia,

Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 r egocijándome en la tierra, su creación; ¡deleitándome con el género humano!»

Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32 H ijos, por favor, ¡escúchenme! ¡Dichosos los que siguen mis caminos!

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 S ean sabios y préstenme atención; no dejen de lado la disciplina.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 D ichoso el hombre que me escucha y todo el tiempo se mantiene vigilante a las puertas de mi casa.

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 E l que me halla, ha encontrado la vida y alcanzado el favor del Señor.

For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 E l que peca contra mí, se daña a sí mismo; el que me aborrece, ama a la muerte.

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
