1 F iul meu, nu uita învăţătura mea, ci păstrează în inima ta poruncile mele,

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

2 c ăci ele îţi vor prelungi zilele şi anii vieţii tale şi îţi vor adăuga pace.

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

3 Î ndurarea şi credincioşia să nu te părăsească niciodată! Leagă-ţi-le la gât, scrie-le pe tăbliţa inimii tale!

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

4 A tunci vei găsi bunăvoinţă şi un bun renume înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

5 Î ncrede-te în Domnul din toată inima ta şi nu te bizui pe înţelepciunea ta.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 R ecunoaşte-L în toate căile tale şi El îţi va îndrepta cărările.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7 N u te considera înţelept în ochii tăi; teme-te de Domnul şi fereşte-te de rău.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

8 A ceasta va aduce sănătate trupului tău şi rezistenţă oaselor tale.

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

9 C insteşte-L pe Domnul cu bunurile tale, cu primele roade din toată recolta ta!

Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 A stfel hambarele tale vor fi pline de belşug, iar teascurile tale se vor revărsa de must.

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

11 F iul meu, nu dispreţui disciplinarea Domnului şi nu fi mâhnit când eşti mustrat de El,

My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

12 p entru că Domnul îl mustră pe cel pe care-l iubeşte, ca un tată pe fiul pe care-l primeşte.

For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

13 B inecuvântat este omul care găseşte înţelepciunea şi cel care dobândeşte priceperea,

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

14 p entru că ea este mai de preţ decât argintul şi venitul ei este mai mare decât al aurului.

For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15 E a este mai valoroasă decât mărgăritarele; orice ţi-ai dori nu se poate compara cu ea.

She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16 Î n dreapta ei este o viaţă lungă; în stânga ei se află bogăţie şi onoare.

Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

17 C ăile ei sunt plăcute şi toate cărările ei sunt paşnice.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 E a este un pom al vieţii pentru cei ce o îmbrăţişează; oricine o apucă este binecuvântat.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

19 P rin înţelepciune a întemeiat Domnul pământul, prin pricepere a întocmit cerurile;

The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

20 p rin cunoştinţa Lui, adâncurile s-au despărţit şi norii au picurat roua.

By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

21 F iul meu, păstrează priceperea şi prudenţa, nu-ţi îndepărta privirea de la ele.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

22 A cestea vor fi viaţă pentru sufletul tău şi o podoabă graţioasă pentru gâtul tău.

So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

23 A tunci vei merge în siguranţă pe calea ta şi nu ţi se va împiedica piciorul.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

24 C ând te vei culca, vei fi fără teamă şi când vei dormi, somnul îţi va fi dulce.

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

25 N u te teme nici de dezastrul care soseşte pe neaşteptate, nici de nenorocirea care vine din partea celor răi,

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

26 c ăci Domnul va fi încrederea ta. El îţi va păzi piciorul de orice capcană.

For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

27 N u opri o binefacere celui ce are nevoie de ea, când stă în puterea ta să faci lucrul acesta.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

28 N u spune semenului tău, „Vino mai târziu! Îţi voi da mâine!“ când poţi să-i dai acum.

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

29 N u unelti împotriva semenului tău care trăieşte încrezător lângă tine.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

30 N u te certa cu un om fără motiv, dacă nu ţi-a făcut nimic rău.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

31 N u invidia pe omul violent şi nu alege nici una din căile lui,

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

32 c ăci oamenii corupţi sunt o urâciune înaintea Domnului, dar cu cei drepţi El este prieten.

For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

33 B lestemul Domnului este peste casa celui rău, dar El binecuvântează locuinţa celui drept.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

34 D acă are de-a face cu batjocoritori, El îşi bate joc de ei, dar celor smeriţi El le dă har.

Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

35 C ei înţelepţi vor moşteni onoarea, dar cei proşti vor avea parte de ruşine.

The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
