1 C ând regele Ezechia a auzit lucrul acesta, şi-a sfâşiat hainele, s-a acoperit cu un sac şi s-a dus la Casa Domnului.

And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.

2 I -a trimis la profetul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, pe Eliachim, administratorul palatului, pe scribul Şebna şi pe cei bătrâni dintre preoţi, acoperiţi toţi cu saci.

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

3 E i i-au zis: – Aşa vorbeşte Ezechia: „Aceasta este o zi de necaz, de pedeapsă şi de ruşine, căci copiii sunt gata să se nască, dar nu mai este nici o putere pentru a le da naştere.

And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

4 P oate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, a auzit cuvintele lui Rab-Şache, care a fost trimis de stăpânul său, împăratul Asiriei, pentru a-L batjocori pe Dumnezeul cel Viu şi poate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îl va mustra pentru cuvintele pe care le-a auzit. De aceea înalţă o rugăciune pentru cei care au mai rămas!“

It may be the Lord thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the Lord thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.

5 C ând slujitorii regelui Ezechia au ajuns la Isaia,

So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 a cesta le-a zis: – Să-i spuneţi stăpânului vostru că aşa vorbeşte Domnul: „Nu te speria de cuvintele pe care le-ai auzit şi cu care slujitorii împăratului Asiriei M-au blasfemiat!

And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 I ată, voi pune în el un duh şi astfel, la auzirea unui zvon, se va întoarce în ţara lui; şi voi face să cadă ucis de sabie chiar în ţara lui.“

Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 C ând Rab-Şache a auzit că împăratul Asiriei plecase din Lachiş, s-a întors şi l-a găsit pe acesta luptând împotriva Libnei.

So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

9 D upă aceea, împăratul Asiriei a auzit că Tirhaka, regele din Cuş, a pornit la luptă împotriva lui. Când a auzit lucrul acesta a trimis soli la Ezechia, zicând:

And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

10 „ Aşa să-i vorbiţi lui Ezechia, regele lui Iuda: «Nu-l lăsa pe Dumnezeul tău, în care te încrezi, să te amăgească zicându-ţi că Ierusalimul nu va fi dat în mâna împăratului Asiriei.

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 C u siguranţă, ai auzit ce au făcut împăraţii Asiriei tuturor ţărilor cucerite, distrugându-le în întregime! Şi tu să fii oare salvat?

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

12 Ş i-au salvat, oare, zeii neamurile pe care părinţii mei le-au distrus: pe Gozan, pe Haran, pe Reţef şi pe fiii lui Eden, care erau în Tel-Assar?

Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?

13 U nde este regele Hamatului, regele Arpadului şi regele cetăţii Sefarvayim, al cetăţii Hena sau al cetăţii Iva?»“ Rugăciunea lui Ezechia

Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

14 E zechia a luat scrisoarea din mâna solilor şi a citit-o. Apoi s-a dus la Casa Domnului şi a întins-o înaintea Domnului.

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.

15 E zechia s-a rugat Domnului, zicând:

And Hezekiah prayed unto the Lord, saying,

16 „ O, Doamne al Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, Tu, Care tronezi deasupra heruvimilor! Tu eşti singurul Dumnezeu al tuturor regatelor pământului! Tu ai făcut cerurile şi pământul!

O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

17 D oamne, pleacă-Ţi urechea şi ascultă! Doamne, deschide-Ţi ochii şi priveşte! Auzi toate cuvintele pe care Sanherib le-a trimis ca să-L batjocorească pe Dumnezeul cel Viu!

Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open thine eyes, O Lord, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.

18 D oamne, este adevărat că împăraţii Asiriei au pustiit toate aceste neamuri şi ţările lor,

Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,

19 ş i că le-au aruncat zeii în foc, însă ei i-au distrus pentru că nu erau Dumnezeu, ci lucrări făcute de mâna omului; erau doar lemn şi piatră.

And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

20 A cum, Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, scapă-ne din mâna lui, ca să ştie toate regatele pământului că doar Tu eşti Domnul!“ Profeţia lui Isaia asupra lui Sanherib

Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only.

21 A tunci Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, a trimis la Ezechia să i se spună: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Pentru că Mi te-ai rugat cu privire la Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei,

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:

22 i ată care este cuvântul pe care l-a rostit Domnul împotriva acestuia: Fecioara, fiica Sionului, te dispreţuieşte şi îşi bate joc de tine! Fiica Ierusalimului dă din cap în timp ce fugi.

This is the word which the Lord hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

23 Ş tii pe Cine ai batjocorit şi ai blasfemiat tu? Ştii împotriva Cui ţi-ai ridicat glasul? Ştii împotriva Cui ţi-ai înălţat mândru privirea? Împotriva Sfântului lui Israel!

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

24 P rin slujitorii tăi L-ai batjocorit pe Stăpân şi ai zis: ‘Cu mulţimea carelor mele am urcat înălţimile munţilor până la cele mai înalte piscuri ale Libanului! I-am tăiat cei mai înalţi cedri şi cei mai aleşi chiparoşi. Am ajuns la cele mai înalte piscuri şi la pădurea cea mai deasă.

By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

25 A m săpat fântâni şi am băut apă, şi cu tălpile picioarelor mele am secat toate pâraiele Egiptului.’

I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.

26 N -ai auzit? Eu le-am întocmit cu mult timp în urmă, din zile străvechi le-am plănuit; acum însă le-am îngăduit să se împlinească, anume ca tu să prefaci cetăţile fortificate în mormane de dărâmături.

Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.

27 L ocuitorii lor sunt neputincioşi, sunt uluiţi şi făcuţi de ruşine. Au ajuns ca iarba de pe câmp şi ca verdeaţa fragedă, ca iarba de pe acoperişuri, care se usucă înainte să crească.

Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

28 D ar Eu ştiu unde stai, când ieşi şi când intri şi cât eşti de furios pe Mine.

But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

29 P entru că te-ai mâniat pe Mine şi pentru că trufia ta a ajuns la urechile Mele, voi pune veriga Mea în nasul tău, şi zăbala Mea în gura ta şi te voi întoarce pe drumul pe care ai venit.

Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

30 A cesta va fi semnul pentru tine, Ezechia: anul acesta veţi mânca ce va creşte de la sine, iar în al doilea an – ce va răsări din ce a rămas. Dar în al treilea an veţi semăna şi veţi secera, veţi planta vii şi le veţi mânca roadele.

And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.

31 S upravieţuitorii Casei lui Iuda, cei rămaşi, vor prinde iarăşi rădăcini dedesubt şi vor da rod deasupra.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

32 C ăci din Ierusalim va ieşi o rămăşiţă şi din muntele Sion o ceată de supravieţuitori. Râvna Domnului Oştirilor va face lucrul acesta.»“

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

33 „ De aceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul cu privire la împăratul Asiriei: «Nu va intra în cetatea aceasta şi nu va trage nici o săgeată acolo; nu va veni în faţa ei cu vreun scut şi nu va ridica împotriva ei nici o rampă de asalt.

Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.

34 P e drumul pe care a venit, pe acela se va întoarce şi nu va intra în cetatea aceasta, zice Domnul.

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the Lord.

35 E u voi ocroti cetatea aceasta pentru a o izbăvi, de dragul Meu şi de dragul robului Meu David.»“

For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

36 Î ngerul Domnului a ieşit în tabăra asirienilor şi a ucis o sută optzeci şi cinci de mii de oameni. Când cei din popor s-au trezit dis-de-dimineaţă, au văzut că toţi erau nişte trupuri moarte.

Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

37 A tunci Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei şi-a ridicat tabăra şi a plecat. El s-a întors la Ninive şi a locuit acolo.

So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

38 Î n timp ce se închina în templul zeului său, Nisrok, fiii săi, Adra-Melek şi Sareţer, l-au ucis cu sabia şi au fugit în ţara Ararat. Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Esar-Hadon.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
