1 A tunci Bildad din Şuah a luat cuvântul şi a zis:

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2 „ Până când vei mai vorbi astfel şi până când vor fi cuvintele tale ca un vânt năprasnic?

How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

3 O are va perverti Dumnezeu judecata dreaptă? Va perverti Cel Atotputernic ce e drept?

Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

4 D acă fiii tăi au păcătuit împotriva Lui, El i-a pedepsit pentru păcatul lor.

If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

5 D acă tu Îl cauţi pe Dumnezeu şi te rogi Celui Atotputernic,

If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

6 d acă eşti curat şi drept, cu siguranţă, El Însuşi te va apăra şi-ţi va da înapoi locuinţa dreptăţii tale.

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

7 D eşi începutul tău a fost neînsemnat, zilele tale de pe urmă vor fi prospere.

Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

8 Î ntreabă generaţiile anterioare şi află ce-au învăţat părinţii lor,

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

9 p entru că noi suntem doar de ieri şi nu ştim nimic, iar zilele noastre pe pământ sunt doar o umbră.

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

10 O are nu te vor învăţa şi nu-ţi vor spune şi nu vor scoate ei cuvinte din mintea lor?

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

11 C reşte papirusul unde nu este mlaştină? Creşte trestia unde nu este apă?

Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

12 P e când este încă verde şi netăiată, se usucă mai repede ca iarba.

Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

13 A şa sunt căile celor ce uită pe Dumnezeu; aşa piere nădejdea celui lipsit de evlavie.

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

14 Î ncrederea lui este ca un fir subţire şi sprijinul lui este ca pânza unui păianjen.

Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

15 S e bizuie pe casa lui, dar ea nu este tare, se prinde de ea, dar ea nu ţine.

He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

16 E l este ca o plantă plină de sevă în lumina soarelui, care îşi întinde ramurile deasupra grădinii,

He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

17 î şi ţese rădăcinile printre pietre, caută un loc între stânci.

His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

18 D ar când e smulsă din locul ei, locul acela îi spune: «Nu te-am văzut niciodată!»

If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

19 A ceasta este bucuria căii ei, iar din pământ vor răsări altele.

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

20 N u, Dumnezeu nu-l va respinge pe cel curat, nici nu va întări mâinile celor ce fac rău.

Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

21 E l va umple din nou cu râsete gura ta, şi va aşeza strigăte de bucurie pe buzele tale.

Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

22 C ei ce te urăsc vor fi acoperiţi de ruşine şi cortul celui rău nu va mai fi.“

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
