1 D upă moartea lui Moise, robul Domnului, Domnul i-a vorbit lui Iosua, fiul lui Nun, slujitorul lui Moise, astfel:

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

2 „ Moise, robul Meu, a murit. Acum dar traversează de îndată Iordanul, împreună cu tot poporul acesta, spre ţara pe care o dau israeliţilor.

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 V ă voi da orice teritoriu peste care va trece talpa piciorului vostru, întocmai cum i-am promis lui Moise.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

4 T eritoriul vostru se va întinde de la pustie până la Liban şi de la Râul cel Mare, râul Eufrat, cuprinzând toată ţara hitiţilor, până la Marea cea Mare, în apus.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

5 N ici un om nu-ţi va putea sta împotrivă cât vei trăi. Cum am fost cu Moise, tot aşa voi fi şi cu tine! Nu te voi lăsa şi nu te voi părăsi!

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6 F ii tare şi curajos, pentru că tu vei da în stăpânire acestui popor ţara pe care am jurat că le-o voi da părinţilor lor.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 F ii deci tare şi foarte curajos, veghind să împlineşti toată Legea pe care ţi-a poruncit-o robul Meu Moise. Nu te abate de la ea nici la dreapta, nici la stânga, ca să prosperi oriunde vei merge.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.

8 C artea aceasta a Legii să nu să se depărteze de gura ta! Meditează asupra ei zi şi noapte, veghind, astfel încât să poţi împlini tot ceea ce este scris în ea, căci atunci vei izbândi oriunde vei merge şi vei prospera!

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 O are nu Eu te-am împuternicit? Fii tare şi curajos! Nu te teme şi nu te înspăimânta, fiindcă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, este cu tine oriunde vei merge!“

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

10 I osua le-a poruncit conducătorilor poporului următoarele:

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11 – Treceţi prin tabără şi porunciţi poporului să-şi pregătească provizii, căci peste trei zile veţi traversa Iordanul ca să intraţi şi să cuceriţi ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-o dă în stăpânire.

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

12 R ubeniţilor, gadiţilor şi jumătăţii seminţiei lui Manase, Iosua le-a zis:

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

13 – Aduceţi-vă aminte de însărcinarea pe care v-a dat-o Moise, robul Domnului, când a zis că Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, vă dă odihnă şi vă dă ţara aceasta.

Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

14 P rin urmare, soţiile voastre, copiii voştri şi vitele voastre vor trebui să rămână în ţara pe care v-a dat-o Moise în partea aceasta a Iordanului. Însă toţi războinicii voştri vor trebui să traverseze înarmaţi înaintea fraţilor voştri ca să-i ajute,

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

15 p ână când Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, le va da şi lor odihnă asemenea vouă şi până când şi ei vor lua în stăpânire ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, le-o dă. După aceea vă veţi întoarce să stăpâniţi ţara care v-a fost dată ca moştenire de către Moise, robul Domnului, dincoace de Iordan, spre răsăritul soarelui.“

Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord 's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

16 – Vom face tot ceea ce ne-ai poruncit şi vom merge oriunde ne vei trimite! i-au răspuns ei lui Iosua.

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

17 T e vom asculta tot aşa cum l-am ascultat şi pe Moise! Numai să fie acum Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi cu tine la fel cum a fost cu Moise.

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 O rice om care se va răzvrăti împotriva poruncii tale şi care nu va asculta de toate cuvintele pe care ni le porunceşti, va fi omorât. Tu însă fii tare şi curajos!

Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
