1 O rice femeie înţeleaptă îşi zideşte casa, dar cea proastă o dărâmă cu înseşi mâinile ei.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 C ine umblă cu dreptate se teme de Domnul, dar cel ce merge pe căi strâmbe Îl dispreţuieşte.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 V orbirea prostului aduce o nuia pentru spinarea lui, dar cei înţelepţi sunt protejaţi de buzele lor.

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 U nde nu sunt boi, ieslea este goală, dar puterea boilor aduce belşug de roade.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 M artorul adevărat nu înşală, dar un martor mincinos spune numai minciuni.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 B atjocoritorul caută înţelepciunea dar n-o găseşte, însă pentru cel priceput cunoştinţa este un lucru uşor.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

7 D epărtează-te de omul prost pentru că nu vei găsi cunoştinţă pe buzele lui!

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 Î nţelepciunea celui prudent îl face să-şi înţeleagă căile, dar prostia proştilor înşală.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 P roştii glumesc cu păcatul, dar între cei drepţi este bunăvoinţă.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

10 I nima îşi cunoaşte necazurile ei şi nici un străin nu poate lua parte la bucuria ei.

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

11 C asa celor răi va fi distrusă, dar cortul celor drepţi va înflori.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 E xistă o cale ce pare dreaptă omului, dar la urmă duce spre moarte.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 C hiar şi în mijlocul râsului inima poate fi îndurerată, iar bucuria poate sfârşi în întristare.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 C el cu inima rătăcită va fi pedepsit pentru căile lui, iar omul bun va primi o răsplată pentru ale lui.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 C el naiv crede orice cuvânt, dar cel prudent îşi gândeşte bine paşii.

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 O mul înţelept se teme de Domnul şi evită răul, dar cel prost este insolent şi prea încrezător în sine.

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 C el iute la mânie face prostii şi omul cu intenţii rele este dispreţuit.

He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 C ei naivi moştenesc prostie, dar cei prudenţi sunt încununaţi cu ştiinţă.

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 O amenii răi se vor pleca înaintea celor buni şi cei ticăloşi se vor pleca la porţile celui drept.

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 S ăracul este evitat chiar şi de semenii lui, dar bogatul are mulţi prieteni.

The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

21 C ine îşi dispreţuieşte semenii păcătuieşte, dar binecuvântat este cine are milă de cel nevoiaş.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

22 N u se rătăcesc cei ce plănuiesc răul? Cei ce plănuiesc binele însă găsesc bunătate şi credincioşie.

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 Î n orice muncă grea există şi un câştig, dar a vorbi doar duce numai la sărăcie.

In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 B ogăţia este o coroană pentru cei înţelepţi, dar prostia proştilor rodeşte prostie.

The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

25 M artorul sincer salvează vieţi, dar martorul fals este înşelător.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

26 C ine se teme de Domnul are o fortăreaţă sigură, şi El va fi un refugiu pentru copiii lui.

In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 F rica de Domnul este un izvor de viaţă, îndepărtând omul de la cursele morţii.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 P oporul numeros este slava regelui, dar, fără supuşi, prinţul este ruinat.

In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 C el răbdător are mare pricepere, dar cine este iute la mânie face prostii.

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 O inimă liniştită este viaţa trupului, dar invidia este putrezirea oaselor.

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 C ine asupreşte pe sărac dispreţuieşte pe Creatorul său, dar cine are milă de nevoiaş Îl onorează pe Dumnezeu.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

32 C el rău este doborât de răutatea lui, dar cel drept chiar şi la moarte are un refugiu.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

33 Î nţelepciunea se odihneşte în mintea celui priceput şi chiar printre proşti se lasă cunoscută.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

34 D reptatea înalţă un neam, dar păcatul este o ruşine pentru orice popor.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 B unăvoinţa regelui este pentru slujitorul priceput, dar mânia lui este pentru cel care-l face de ruşine.

The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
