1 Î n zilele acelea, a ieşit un decret de la Cezar Augustus să se înscrie toată lumea.

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2 A cest recensământ s-a făcut pentru prima oară în timp ce în Siria era guvernator Quirinius.

(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 T oţi se duceau să se înscrie, fiecare în cetatea lui.

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 I osif a plecat şi el din Galileea, din cetatea Nazaret, înspre Iudeea, în cetatea lui David, numită Betleem, pentru că era din casa şi spiţa lui David,

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5 c a să se înscrie împreună cu Maria, logodnica lui, care era însărcinată.

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 Î n timp ce se aflau acolo, s-a împlinit vremea ca ea să nască.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 Ş i L-a născut pe Fiul ei cel întâi născut. Ea L-a înfăşat şi L-a culcat într-o iesle, pentru că în odaia de găzduire nu era loc pentru ei. Vestea bună adusă păstorilor

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 Î n ţinutul acela erau nişte păstori care rămăseseră afară, pe câmp, şi stăteau de pază în timpul nopţii în jurul turmei lor.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 U n înger al Domnului a apărut înaintea lor şi slava Domnului a strălucit în jurul lor. Ei s-au speriat foarte tare.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 Î ngerul le-a zis: „Nu vă temeţi, pentru că iată, vă aduc o veste bună, care va fi o mare bucurie pentru tot poporul:

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 a stăzi, în cetatea lui David, vi s-a născut un Mântuitor, Care este Cristos, Domnul!

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 I ată care va fi semnul pentru voi: veţi găsi un Copil nou-născut, înfăşat şi culcat într-o iesle.“

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 Ş i deodată, împreună cu îngerul s-a unit o mulţime de oaste cerească, lăudându-L pe Dumnezeu şi zicând:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 „ Slavă lui Dumnezeu în înălţimi şi pace pe pământ, între oamenii peste care se odihneşte bunăvoinţa Lui!“

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 D upă ce îngerii s-au întors de la ei în ceruri, păstorii şi-au zis unii altora: „Să mergem acum la Betleem şi să vedem lucrul acesta care s-a întâmplat şi pe care Domnul ni l-a făcut cunoscut!“

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 S -au dus repede şi i-au găsit pe Maria, pe Iosif şi Copilul culcat în iesle.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 C ând i-au văzut, le-au făcut cunoscut ceea ce li se spusese despre Acest Copil.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 T oţi cei ce i-au auzit, s-au mirat de ceea ce le-au spus păstorii.

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 M aria, însă, păstra toate aceste cuvinte şi cugeta la ele în inima ei.

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 A poi păstorii s-au întors slăvindu-L şi lăudându-L pe Dumnezeu pentru toate lucrurile pe care le-au auzit şi le-au văzut şi care erau întocmai cum li se spusese.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21 C ând a venit ziua a opta, în care Copilul trebuia circumcis, I-au pus numele Isus, nume pe care îl spusese îngerul înainte ca El să fi fost conceput în pântece. Isus este prezentat la Templu. Simeon şi Ana

And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

22 Ş i când s-au împlinit zilele pentru curăţirea lor, poruncită în Legea lui Moise, L-au dus la Ierusalim ca să-L înfăţişeze înaintea Domnului,

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

23 a şa cum este scris în Legea Domnului: „Orice întâi născut, care este băiat, să fie pus deoparte pentru Domnul“,

(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

24 ş i ca să aducă jertfă, aşa cum este spus în Legea Domnului: „O pereche de turturele sau doi pui de porumbel.“

And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

25 Ş i iată că în Ierusalim era un om pe care-l chema Simeon. Acest om era drept şi evlavios. El aştepta mângâierea lui Israel şi Duhul Sfânt era peste el.

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

26 D uhul Sfânt îi făcuse cunoscut că nu va vedea moartea înainte de a-L vedea pe Cristosul Domnului.

And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

27 C ălăuzit de Duhul, el a venit în Templu. Când părinţii L-au adus înăuntru pe Copilul Isus, ca să împlinească cu privire la El obiceiul Legii,

And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

28 S imeon L-a luat în braţe, L-a binecuvântat pe Dumnezeu şi a zis:

Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

29 „ Acum, Stăpâne, eliberează-l pe robul Tău în pace, după cuvântul Tău,

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

30 c ăci ochii mei au văzut mântuirea Ta,

For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 p e care ai pregătit-o să fie înaintea tuturor popoarelor

Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

32 o lumină care să slujească celorlalte neamuri drept revelaţie, iar poporului Tău, Israel, drept glorie!“

A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

33 T atăl şi mama lui Isus se mirau de ceea ce se spunea despre El.

And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

34 S imeon i-a binecuvântat şi i-a zis Mariei, mama lui Isus: „Iată, Copilul Acesta este rânduit pentru căderea şi ridicarea multora în Israel şi pentru a fi un semn care va stârni împotrivire,

And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35 c a astfel să fie descoperite gândurile din multe inimi. Şi o sabie va străpunge chiar sufletul tău!“

(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36 M ai era şi o profetesă, pe nume Ana, fata lui Fanuel, din seminţia lui Aşer. Aceasta era foarte înaintată în vârstă. Ea trăise împreună cu soţul ei timp de şapte ani după fecioria ei

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

37 ş i apoi, ca văduvă, ajunsese la optzeci şi patru de ani. Ea nu se îndepărta de la Templu, slujind zi şi noapte prin post şi rugăciune.

And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38 A venit acolo chiar în ceasul acela şi a început să-I mulţumească lui Dumnezeu şi să le vorbească despre El tuturor celor ce aşteptau răscumpărarea Ierusalimului.

And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

39 D upă ce au împlinit toate lucrurile poruncite în Legea Domnului, s-au întors în Galileea, în cetatea lor, Nazaret.

And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

40 C opilul creştea, se întărea şi era umplut cu înţelepciune, iar harul lui Dumnezeu era peste El. Isus în Templu la vârsta de doisprezece ani

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

41 Î n fiecare an, părinţii Lui se duceau la Ierusalim, la Sărbătoarea Paştelui.

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

42 C ând era El la vârsta de doisprezece ani, s-au dus la sărbătoare, potrivit obiceiului.

And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43 D upă ce au trecut zilele sărbătorii, la întoarcere, Copilul Isus a rămas în urmă în Ierusalim. Părinţii Lui n-au ştiut lucrul acesta.

And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

44 E i au crezut că se află undeva în caravană şi au mers aşa cale de o zi. Apoi au început să-L caute printre rude şi cunoştinţe,

But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45 d ar nu L-au găsit, aşa că s-au întors la Ierusalim să-L caute.

And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46 D upă trei zile, L-au găsit în Templu, şezând în mijlocul învăţătorilor, ascultându-i şi punându-le întrebări.

And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

47 T oţi cei care-L auzeau erau uimiţi de priceperea şi de răspunsurile Lui.

And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48 C ând L-au văzut, părinţii Lui au rămas înmărmuriţi. Mama Lui i-a zis: – Copile, de ce ne-ai făcut aceasta? Iată că tatăl Tău şi cu mine Te-am căutat cu îngrijorare!

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49 E l le-a răspuns: – De ce M-aţi căutat? Nu ştiaţi că trebuie să fiu în Casa Tatălui Meu?

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

50 E i n-au înţeles ceea ce le-a zis El.

And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

51 A poi S-a coborât împreună cu ei, a venit în Nazaret şi le era supus. Mama Lui păstra toate aceste lucruri în inima ei.

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

52 I sus creştea în înţelepciune, în statură şi Îi era tot mai plăcut lui Dumnezeu şi oamenilor.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
