1 A şadar, tu, copilul meu, întăreşte-te în harul care este în Cristos Isus!

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 C eea ce ai auzit de la mine, înaintea multor martori, încredinţează unor oameni de încredere, care să fie în stare să-i înveţe pe alţii!

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3 I a parte la suferinţă împreună cu mine, ca un bun soldat al lui Cristos Isus!

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 N ici un soldat nu se implică în treburile vieţii, dacă vrea să placă celui ce l-a înscris la oaste.

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5 D acă cineva concurează ca atlet, nu este încununat, dacă nu concurează după reguli.

And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

6 F ermierul care a trudit din greu trebuie să aibă primul parte din roade.

The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

7 Î nţelege ce-ţi spun! Domnul îţi va da pricepere în toate.

Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8 A minteşte-ţi de Isus Cristos, din sămânţa lui David, Care a înviat din morţi, potrivit cu Evanghelia mea,

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9 p entru care eu sufăr până acolo încât sunt legat ca un răufăcător. Dar Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu nu este legat.

Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

10 A stfel, eu rabd totul pentru cei aleşi, pentru ca şi ei să obţină mântuirea care este în Cristos Isus, împreună cu slava veşnică.

Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 A cest cuvânt este vrednic de încredere: „Căci dacă am murit împreună cu El, vom şi trăi împreună cu El.

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12 D acă răbdăm, vom şi domni împreună cu El. Dacă ne lepădăm de El, şi El se va lepăda de noi.

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

13 D acă suntem necredincioşi, El rămâne credincios, pentru că nu Se poate nega pe Sine.“ Un lucrător după voia lui Dumnezeu

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14 A minteşte-le aceste lucruri! Roagă-i solemn, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, să nu se certe cu privire la cuvinte, pentru că aceasta nu este de nici un folos, ci mai degrabă îi ruinează pe cei ce ascultă.

Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15 S trăduieşte-te să te înfăţişezi înaintea lui Dumnezeu ca un om încercat, ca un lucrător care nu are de ce să-i fie ruşine, care explică corect Cuvântul adevărului.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 E vită vorbăriile goale şi lumeşti, căci cei care se ţin de ele vor înainta tot mai mult spre lipsa de evlavie,

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17 i ar cuvântul lor se va împrăştia precum cangrena. Dintre aceştia sunt şi Imeneu, şi Filet,

And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18 c are s-au rătăcit în ce priveşte adevărul, spunând că învierea a avut deja loc şi răsturnând astfel credinţa multora.

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19 C u toate acestea, temelia solidă a lui Dumnezeu rămâne fermă, având sigiliul aceasta: „Domnul îi cunoaşte pe cei ce sunt ai Lui“ şi „Oricine rosteşte Numele Domnului trebuie să se îndepărteze de nedreptate.“

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20 Î ntr-o casă mare nu sunt numai vase de aur şi de argint, ci şi de lemn şi de lut, unele pentru o întrebuinţare de cinste, altele pentru o întrebuinţare de ocară.

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 A şadar, dacă cineva se curăţeşte de acestea, va fi un vas de cinste, sfinţit şi folositor Stăpânului, pregătit pentru orice lucrare bună.

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

22 F ugi de poftele tinereţii şi urmăreşte dreptatea, credinţa, dragostea, pacea, împreună cu cei care-L cheamă pe Domnul dintr-o inimă curată!

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 E vită disputele nebuneşti şi prosteşti, ştiind că ele dau naştere la certuri!

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24 Ş i robul Domnului nu trebuie să se certe, ci să fie blând cu toţi, capabil să dea învăţătură, să fie îngăduitor şi

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25 s ă-i corecteze cu blândeţe pe cei ce se împotrivesc, în nădejdea că Dumnezeu le va da pocăinţa, ca să ajungă la cunoaşterea adevărului,

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 s ă-şi vină în fire şi să scape din capcana diavolului, în care au fost capturaţi ca să-i facă voia.

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
