1 H abía en Cesarea un hombre llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía llamada «la Italiana»,

There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,

2 p iadoso y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, y que hacía muchas limosnas al pueblo y oraba siempre a Dios.

a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.

3 É ste vio claramente en una visión, como a la hora novena del día, que un ángel de Dios entraba donde él estaba y le decía: —¡Cornelio!

About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

4 É l, mirándolo fijamente, y atemorizado, dijo: —¿Qué es, Señor? Le dijo: —Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido para memoria delante de Dios.

And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.

5 E nvía, pues, ahora hombres a Jope y haz venir a Simón, el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro.

Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.

6 É ste se hospeda en casa de cierto Simón, un curtidor que tiene su casa junto al mar; él te dirá lo que es necesario que hagas.

He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”

7 C uando se marchó el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, éste llamó a dos de sus criados y a un devoto soldado de los que lo asistían,

And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually.

8 a los cuales envió a Jope, después de habérselo contado todo.

So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa. Peter’s Vision

9 A l día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea para orar, cerca de la hora sexta.

The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour.

10 S intió mucha hambre y quiso comer; pero mientras le preparaban algo le sobrevino un éxtasis:

Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance

11 V io el cielo abierto, y que descendía algo semejante a un gran lienzo, que atado de las cuatro puntas era bajado a la tierra,

and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth.

12 e n el cual había de todos los cuadrúpedos terrestres, reptiles y aves del cielo.

In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

13 Y le vino una voz: —Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.

And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”

14 E ntonces Pedro dijo: —Señor, no; porque ninguna cosa común o impura he comido jamás.

But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”

15 V olvió la voz a él la segunda vez: —Lo que Dios limpió, no lo llames tú común.

And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”

16 E sto ocurrió tres veces; y aquel lienzo volvió a ser recogido en el cielo.

This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. Summoned to Caesarea

17 M ientras Pedro estaba perplejo dentro de sí sobre lo que significaría la visión que había visto, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, habiendo preguntado por la casa de Simón, llegaron a la puerta.

Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate.

18 L lamaron y preguntaron si allí se hospedaba un tal Simón que tenía por sobrenombre Pedro.

And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.

19 Y mientras Pedro pensaba en la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: «Tres hombres te buscan.

While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you.

20 L evántate, pues, desciende y no dudes de ir con ellos, porque yo los he enviado».

Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

21 E ntonces Pedro, descendiendo a donde estaban los hombres que fueron enviados por Cornelio, les dijo: —Yo soy el que buscáis. ¿Cuál es la causa de vuestra venida?

Then Peter went down to the men who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, “Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?”

22 E llos dijeron: —Cornelio el centurión, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, y que tiene buen testimonio en toda la nación de los judíos, ha recibido instrucciones de un santo ángel, de hacerte venir a su casa para oír tus palabras.

And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.”

23 E ntonces, haciéndolos entrar, los hospedó. Y al día siguiente, levantándose, se fue con ellos; y lo acompañaron algunos de los hermanos de Jope.

Then he invited them in and lodged them. On the next day Peter went away with them, and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him. Peter Meets Cornelius

24 A l otro día entraron en Cesarea. Cornelio los estaba esperando, habiendo convocado a sus parientes y amigos más íntimos.

And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.

25 C uando Pedro entró, salió Cornelio a recibirlo y, postrándose a sus pies, lo adoró.

As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.

26 P ero Pedro lo levantó, diciendo: —Levántate, pues yo mismo también soy un hombre.

But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.”

27 H ablando con él, entró y halló a muchos que se habían reunido.

And as he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come together.

28 Y les dijo: —Vosotros sabéis cuán abominable es para un judío juntarse o acercarse a un extranjero, pero a mí me ha mostrado Dios que a nadie llame común o impuro.

Then he said to them, “You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

29 P or eso, al ser llamado, vine sin replicar. Así que pregunto: ¿Por qué causa me habéis hecho venir?

Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?”

30 E ntonces Cornelio dijo: —Hace cuatro días que a esta hora yo estaba en ayunas; y a la hora novena, mientras oraba en mi casa, vi que se puso delante de mí un varón con vestido resplandeciente,

So Cornelius said, “Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 y me dijo: “Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída, y tus limosnas han sido recordadas delante de Dios.

and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms are remembered in the sight of God.

32 E nvía, pues, a Jope y haz venir a Simón, el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro, el cual se hospeda en casa de Simón, un curtidor, junto al mar; cuando llegue, él te hablará.”

Send therefore to Joppa and call Simon here, whose surname is Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

33 A sí que luego envié por ti, y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en la presencia de Dios, para oír todo lo que Dios te ha mandado. Discurso de Pedro en casa de Cornelio

So I sent to you immediately, and you have done well to come. Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God.” Preaching to Cornelius’ Household

34 E ntonces Pedro, abriendo la boca, dijo: —En verdad comprendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

35 s ino que en toda nación se agrada del que lo teme y hace justicia.

But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

36 D ios envió mensaje a los hijos de Israel, anunciando el evangelio de la paz por medio de Jesucristo; éste es Señor de todos.

The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—

37 V osotros sabéis lo que se divulgó por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que predicó Juan:

that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:

38 c ómo Dios ungió con el Espíritu Santo y con poder a Jesús de Nazaret, y cómo éste anduvo haciendo bienes y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él.

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

39 N osotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que Jesús, a quien mataron colgándolo en un madero, hizo en la tierra de Judea y en Jerusalén.

And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.

40 A éste levantó Dios al tercer día e hizo que apareciera,

Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,

41 n o a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que Dios había ordenado de antemano, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él después que resucitó de los muertos.

not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

42 Y nos mandó que predicáramos al pueblo y testificáramos que él es el que Dios ha puesto por Juez de vivos y muertos.

And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

43 D e éste dan testimonio todos los profetas, que todos los que en él crean recibirán perdón de pecados por su nombre. Los gentiles reciben el Espíritu Santo

To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 M ientras aún hablaba Pedro estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que oían el discurso.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

45 Y los fieles de la circuncisión que habían venido con Pedro se quedaron atónitos de que también sobre los gentiles se derramara el don del Espíritu Santo,

And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

46 p orque los oían que hablaban en lenguas y que glorificaban a Dios.

For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

47 E ntonces respondió Pedro: —¿Puede acaso alguno impedir el agua, para que no sean bautizados estos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que nosotros?

“Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ”

48 Y mandó bautizarlos en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces le rogaron que se quedara por algunos días.

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
