1 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías con motivo de la sequía.

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the droughts.

2 « Se ha enlutado Judá, sus puertas desfallecen; se sentaron tristes en tierra y sube el clamor de Jerusalén.

“Judah mourns, And her gates languish; They mourn for the land, And the cry of Jerusalem has gone up.

3 L os nobles envían a sus criados por agua; van a las lagunas, pero no hallan agua; vuelven con sus vasijas vacías; se avergüenzan, se confunden y cubren sus cabezas.

Their nobles have sent their lads for water; They went to the cisterns and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; They were ashamed and confounded And covered their heads.

4 S e ha resquebrajado la tierra porque no ha llovido en el país; los labradores, confundidos, se cubren la cabeza.

Because the ground is parched, For there was no rain in the land, The plowmen were ashamed; They covered their heads.

5 A un las ciervas en los campos paren y abandonan la cría, porque no hay hierba.

Yes, the deer also gave birth in the field, But left because there was no grass.

6 L os asnos monteses se ponen en las alturas y aspiran el viento como los chacales, pero sus ojos se ofuscan porque no hay hierba.»

And the wild donkeys stood in the desolate heights; They sniffed at the wind like jackals; Their eyes failed because there was no grass.”

7 A unque nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, Jehová, ¡actúa por amor de tu nombre! Porque nuestras rebeliones se han multiplicado, contra ti hemos pecado.

O Lord, though our iniquities testify against us, Do it for Your name’s sake; For our backslidings are many, We have sinned against You.

8 T ú, la esperanza de Israel, su Salvador en el tiempo de la aflicción, ¿por qué te has hecho como forastero en la tierra, como caminante que se retira para pasar la noche?

O the Hope of Israel, his Savior in time of trouble, Why should You be like a stranger in the land, And like a traveler who turns aside to tarry for a night?

9 ¿ Por qué eres como un hombre atónito, como un valiente incapaz de librar? Sin embargo, tú estás entre nosotros, Jehová, y sobre nosotros es invocado tu nombre; no nos desampares.

Why should You be like a man astonished, Like a mighty one who cannot save? Yet You, O Lord, are in our midst, And we are called by Your name; Do not leave us!

10 A sí ha dicho Jehová acerca de este pueblo: «Se deleitaron en vagar, y no dieron descanso a sus pies»; por tanto, Jehová no se agrada de ellos; se acordará ahora de su maldad y castigará sus pecados.

Thus says the Lord to this people: “Thus they have loved to wander; They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the Lord does not accept them; He will remember their iniquity now, And punish their sins.”

11 Y me dijo Jehová: «No ruegues por el bien de este pueblo.

Then the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for this people, for their good.

12 C uando ayunen, yo no escucharé su clamor, y cuando ofrezcan holocausto y ofrenda no los aceptaré, sino que los consumiré con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia.»

When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.”

13 Y o dije: «¡Ah, ah, Señor, Jehová!, mira que los profetas les dicen: “No veréis espada ni habrá hambre entre vosotros, sino que en este lugar os daré paz verdadera.”»

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”

14 M e dijo entonces Jehová: «Falsamente profetizan los profetas en mi nombre. Yo no los envié ni los mandé ni les hablé; visión mentirosa, adivinación, vanidad y engaño de su corazón os profetizan.

And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.

15 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová sobre los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, los cuales yo no envié, y que dicen: “Ni espada ni hambre habrá en esta tierra.” ¡Con espada y con hambre serán consumidos esos profetas!

Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, whom I did not send, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land’—‘By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed!

16 Y el pueblo a quien profetizan quedará tirado por las calles de Jerusalén a causa del hambre y la espada, y no habrá quien los entierre, ni a ellos ni a sus mujeres ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas. Y sobre ellos derramaré su propia maldad.

And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; they will have no one to bury them—them nor their wives, their sons nor their daughters—for I will pour their wickedness on them.’

17 » Les dirás, pues, esta palabra: »“Derramen mis ojos lágrimas noche y día, y no cesen, porque la virgen hija de mi pueblo ha sufrido una terrible desgracia, porque su llaga es muy dolorosa.

“Therefore you shall say this word to them: ‘Let my eyes flow with tears night and day, And let them not cease; For the virgin daughter of my people Has been broken with a mighty stroke, with a very severe blow.

18 S i salgo al campo, veo muertos a espada; si entro en la ciudad, veo enfermos de hambre, y tanto el profeta como el sacerdote andan vagando por el país, y nada entienden.”»

If I go out to the field, Then behold, those slain with the sword! And if I enter the city, Then behold, those sick from famine! Yes, both prophet and priest go about in a land they do not know.’” The People Plead for Mercy

19 ¿ Has desechado del todo a Judá? ¿Ha aborrecido tu alma a Sión? ¿Por qué hiciste que nos hirieran sin remedio? Esperamos paz, pero no hubo tal bien; tiempo de curación, y he aquí turbación.

Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but there was no good; And for the time of healing, and there was trouble.

20 R econocemos, Jehová, nuestra impiedad y la iniquidad de nuestros padres, porque contra ti hemos pecado.

We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness And the iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against You.

21 P or amor de tu nombre, no nos deseches ni deshonres tu glorioso trono; acuérdate, no invalides tu pacto con nosotros.

Do not abhor us, for Your name’s sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory. Remember, do not break Your covenant with us.

22 ¿ Hay entre los ídolos de las naciones alguno capaz de hacer llover? ¿Acaso darán lluvias los cielos? ¿No eres tú, Jehová, nuestro Dios? En ti, pues, esperamos, pues tú has hecho todas estas cosas.

Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O Lord our God? Therefore we will wait for You, Since You have made all these.
