1 « Si te has de volver, Israel», dice Jehová, «vuélvete a mí. Si quitas de delante de mí tus abominaciones y no andas de acá para allá,

“If you will return, O Israel,” says the Lord, “Return to Me; And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight, Then you shall not be moved.

2 y si con verdad y conforme al derecho y la justicia juras: “Vive Jehová”, entonces las naciones serán benditas en él, y en él se gloriarán.

And you shall swear, ‘The Lord lives,’ In truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; The nations shall bless themselves in Him, And in Him they shall glory.”

3 » Porque así dice Jehová a todo hombre de Judá y de Jerusalén: »Arad campo para vosotros y no sembréis entre espinos.

For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns.

4 C ircuncidaos para Jehová, quitad el prepucio de vuestro corazón, hombres de Judá y moradores de Jerusalén, no sea que mi ira salga como fuego, que se encienda y no haya quien la apague a causa de la maldad de vuestras obras. Judá es amenazada de invasión

Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, And take away the foreskins of your hearts, You men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Lest My fury come forth like fire, And burn so that no one can quench it, Because of the evil of your doings.” An Imminent Invasion

5 » Anunciadlo en Judá, proclamadlo en Jerusalén, diciendo: “Tocad trompeta en la tierra”; gritad a voz en cuello y decid: “¡Reuníos y entremos en las ciudades fortificadas!”

Declare in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem, and say: “Blow the trumpet in the land; Cry, ‘Gather together,’ And say, ‘Assemble yourselves, And let us go into the fortified cities.’

6 A lzad bandera en Sión, huid, no os detengáis, porque del norte hago yo venir mal y quebrantamiento grande.

Set up the standard toward Zion. Take refuge! Do not delay! For I will bring disaster from the north, And great destruction.”

7 E l león sube de la espesura, el destructor de naciones está en marcha; ha salido de su lugar para poner tu tierra en desolación; tus ciudades quedarán asoladas y sin morador.

The lion has come up from his thicket, And the destroyer of nations is on his way. He has gone forth from his place To make your land desolate. Your cities will be laid waste, Without inhabitant.

8 P or eso, vestíos con ropas ásperas, lamentaos y gemid, porque la ira de Jehová no se ha apartado de nosotros.

For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth, Lament and wail. For the fierce anger of the Lord Has not turned back from us.

9 » En aquel día», dice Jehová, «desfallecerá el corazón del rey y el corazón de los príncipes, los sacerdotes estarán atónitos y se espantarán los profetas.»

“And it shall come to pass in that day,” says the Lord, “ That the heart of the king shall perish, And the heart of the princes; The priests shall be astonished, And the prophets shall wonder.”

10 Y o dije: «¡Ay, ay, Jehová, Dios, verdaderamente en gran manera has engañado a este pueblo y a Jerusalén, diciendo: “Tendréis paz”, pues la espada ha entrado hasta el alma!»

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Surely You have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, Saying, ‘You shall have peace,’ Whereas the sword reaches to the heart.”

11 E n aquel tiempo se dirá a este pueblo y a Jerusalén: «Un viento seco de las alturas del desierto viene hacia la hija de mi pueblo, y no para aventar ni para limpiar.

At that time it will be said To this people and to Jerusalem, “A dry wind of the desolate heights blows in the wilderness Toward the daughter of My people— Not to fan or to cleanse—

12 U n viento más impetuoso que éste vendrá a servirme, y ahora yo pronunciaré juicios contra ellos.

A wind too strong for these will come for Me; Now I will also speak judgment against them.”

13 » Subirá como las nubes, y su carro como un torbellino. Más ligeros son sus caballos que las águilas. ¡Ay de nosotros, porque entregados somos al despojo!

“Behold, he shall come up like clouds, And his chariots like a whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are plundered!”

14 L ava tu corazón de maldad, Jerusalén, para que seas salva. ¿Hasta cuándo permitirás en medio de ti los pensamientos de iniquidad?

O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, That you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

15 P orque una voz trae las noticias desde Dan y hace oír la calamidad desde los montes de Efraín.

For a voice declares from Dan And proclaims affliction from Mount Ephraim:

16 D ecid a las naciones, hacedlo oír sobre Jerusalén: “Invasores vienen de tierra lejana, y lanzarán su voz contra las ciudades de Judá.”

“Make mention to the nations, Yes, proclaim against Jerusalem, That watchers come from a far country And raise their voice against the cities of Judah.

17 C omo guardas de campo la rodearán, porque se rebeló contra mí, dice Jehová.

Like keepers of a field they are against her all around, Because she has been rebellious against Me,” says the Lord.

18 » Tu camino y tus obras te hicieron esto; ésta es tu maldad, por lo cual la amargura penetrará hasta tu corazón.»

“Your ways and your doings Have procured these things for you. This is your wickedness, Because it is bitter, Because it reaches to your heart.” Sorrow for the Doomed Nation

19 ¡ Mis entrañas, mis entrañas! Me duelen las fibras de mi corazón; mi corazón se agita dentro de mí, no callaré, porque sonido de trompeta has oído, alma mía: ¡un pregón de guerra!

O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, Because you have heard, O my soul, The sound of the trumpet, The alarm of war.

20 S e anuncia quebranto tras quebranto, porque toda la tierra es destruida. ¡De repente son destruidas mis tiendas, en un momento mis cortinas!

Destruction upon destruction is cried, For the whole land is plundered. Suddenly my tents are plundered, And my curtains in a moment.

21 ¿ Hasta cuándo he de ver bandera y he de oír sonido de trompeta?

How long will I see the standard, And hear the sound of the trumpet?

22 P orque mi pueblo es necio, no me conocieron; son hijos ignorantes y faltos de entendimiento; son sabios para hacer el mal, pero no saben hacer el bien.

“For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”

23 M iré a la tierra, y vi que estaba desordenada y vacía; y a los cielos, y no había luz en ellos.

I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; And the heavens, they had no light.

24 M iré a los montes, y vi que temblaban, y todos los collados fueron destruidos.

I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, And all the hills moved back and forth.

25 M iré, y no había hombre, y todas las aves del cielo se habían ido.

I beheld, and indeed there was no man, And all the birds of the heavens had fled.

26 M iré, y vi que el campo fértil era un desierto, y todas sus ciudades estaban asoladas delante de Jehová, delante del ardor de su ira.

I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the Lord, By His fierce anger.

27 A sí dijo Jehová: «Toda la tierra será asolada, pero no la destruiré del todo.

For thus says the Lord: “The whole land shall be desolate; Yet I will not make a full end.

28 P or esto se enlutará la tierra, y los cielos arriba se oscurecerán, porque hablé, lo pensé y no me arrepentiré ni desistiré de ello.

For this shall the earth mourn, And the heavens above be black, Because I have spoken. I have purposed and will not relent, Nor will I turn back from it.

29 A l estruendo de la gente de a caballo y de los flecheros huye toda la ciudad; entran en las espesuras de los bosques y se suben a los peñascos; todas las ciudades fueron abandonadas y no queda en ellas morador alguno.

The whole city shall flee from the noise of the horsemen and bowmen. They shall go into thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city shall be forsaken, And not a man shall dwell in it.

30 Y tú, destruida, ¿qué harás? Aunque te vistas de grana, aunque te adornes con atavíos de oro, aunque pintes con antimonio tus ojos, en vano te engalanas, pues te desprecian tus amantes, los que buscan tu vida.

“And when you are plundered, What will you do? Though you clothe yourself with crimson, Though you adorn yourself with ornaments of gold, Though you enlarge your eyes with paint, In vain you will make yourself fair; Your lovers will despise you; They will seek your life.

31 P orque he oído una voz como de mujer que está de parto, angustia como de primeriza. Es la voz de la hija de Sión, que lamenta y extiende sus manos, diciendo: “¡Ay de mí, pues mi alma desfallece a causa de los asesinos!”»

“For I have heard a voice as of a woman in labor, The anguish as of her who brings forth her first child, The voice of the daughter of Zion bewailing herself; She spreads her hands, saying, ‘Woe is me now, for my soul is weary Because of murderers!’
