1 E n el año veintitrés de Joás hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria Joacaz hijo de Jehú. Reinó diecisiete años,

In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

2 p ero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, pues siguió en los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.

And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. He did not depart from them.

3 P or lo tanto se encendió el furor de Jehová contra Israel, y por largo tiempo los entregó en manos de Hazael, rey de Siria, y en manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael.

Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-Hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

4 P ero Joacaz oró en presencia de Jehová, y Jehová lo escuchó, porque había visto la aflicción de Israel, pues el rey de Siria los afligía.

So Jehoahaz pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

5 ( Y dio Jehová un salvador a Israel que los sacó del poder de los sirios, y habitaron los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas, como antes.

Then the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before.

6 C on todo, no se apartaron de los pecados de la casa de Jeroboam, el que hizo pecar a Israel; en ellos anduvieron, y también la imagen de Asera permaneció en Samaria.)

Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the wooden image also remained in Samaria.

7 A Joacaz no le había quedado gente, sino cincuenta hombres de a caballo, diez carros y diez mil hombres de a pie, pues el rey de Siria los había destruido y los había reducido a polvo del que se pisotea.

For He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.

8 E l resto de los hechos de Joacaz, todo lo que hizo y sus hazañas, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9 J oacaz durmió con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaria. En su lugar reinó Joás, su hijo. Reinado de Joás de Israel

So Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Joash his son reigned in his place. Jehoash Reigns in Israel

10 E l año treinta y siete de Joás, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar en Samaria sobre Israel Joás hijo de Joacaz. Reinó dieciséis años,

In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

11 p ero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová: no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel, sino que anduvo en ellos.

And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them.

12 L os demás hechos de Joás, todo lo que hizo y la manera esforzada con que guerreó contra Amasías, rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Joash, all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 J oás durmió con sus padres y Jeroboam se sentó sobre su trono. Joás fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel. Profecía final y muerte de Eliseo

So Joash rested with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. Death of Elisha

14 E staba Eliseo enfermo de la enfermedad que lo llevaría a la muerte, cuando descendió a verlo Joás, rey de Israel, y llorando delante de él, dijo: —¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro de Israel y su caballería!

Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, “O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!”

15 E liseo le dijo: —Toma un arco y unas flechas. Tomó él entonces un arco y unas flechas.

And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” So he took himself a bow and some arrows.

16 L uego dijo Eliseo al rey de Israel: —Pon tu mano sobre el arco. Y puso él su mano sobre el arco. Entonces puso Eliseo sus manos sobre las manos del rey

Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.

17 y dijo: —Abre la ventana que da al oriente. Cuando él la abrió, le dijo Eliseo: —Tira. Él lo hizo y Eliseo dijo: —Flecha de salvación de Jehová y flecha de salvación contra Siria. Tú herirás a los sirios en Afec hasta exterminarlos.

And he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord ’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them. ”

18 D espués volvió a decir: —Toma las flechas. Luego que el rey de Israel las tomó, le ordenó: —Golpea la tierra. Él la golpeó tres veces y se detuvo.

Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped.

19 E ntonces el varón de Dios, enojado contra él, le dijo: —De dar cinco o seis golpes, habrías derrotado a Siria hasta no quedar ninguno, pero ahora derrotarás a Siria sólo tres veces.

And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.”

20 E liseo murió y lo sepultaron. Ya entrado el año, vinieron bandas armadas de moabitas a la tierra.

Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year.

21 A conteció que estaban unos sepultando a un hombre cuando súbitamente vieron una banda armada; entonces arrojaron el cadáver en el sepulcro de Eliseo. Pero tan pronto tocó el muerto los huesos de Eliseo, revivió y se puso en pie.

So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet. Israel Recaptures Cities from Syria

22 A sí pues, Hazael, rey de Siria, afligió a Israel todo el tiempo de Joacaz.

And Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 P ero Jehová tuvo misericordia y se compadeció de ellos; se volvió hacia ellos a causa de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, y no quiso destruirlos ni echarlos de delante de su presencia hasta hoy.

But the Lord was gracious to them, had compassion on them, and regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence.

24 M urió Hazael, rey de Siria, y reinó en su lugar Ben-adad, su hijo.

Now Hazael king of Syria died. Then Ben-Hadad his son reigned in his place.

25 R egresó Joás hijo de Joacaz y rescató de manos de Ben-adad hijo de Hazael las ciudades que éste había tomado de manos de Joacaz, su padre, en la guerra. Tres veces lo derrotó Joás, y restituyó las ciudades a Israel.

And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz recaptured from the hand of Ben-Hadad, the son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times Joash defeated him and recaptured the cities of Israel.
