1 C uando Jesús nació, en Belén de Judea, en días del rey Herodes, llegaron del oriente a Jerusalén unos sabios,

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

2 p reguntando: —¿Dónde está el rey de los judíos que ha nacido?, pues su estrella hemos visto en el oriente y venimos a adorarlo.

saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

3 A l oír esto, el rey Herodes se turbó, y toda Jerusalén con él.

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 Y , habiendo convocado a todos los principales sacerdotes y escribas del pueblo, les preguntó dónde había de nacer el Cristo.

And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

5 E llos le respondieron: —En Belén de Judea, porque así fue escrito por el profeta:

So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:

6 » “Y tú, Belén, de la tierra de Judá, no eres la más pequeña entre los príncipes de Judá, porque de ti saldrá un guiador, que apacentará a mi pueblo Israel.”

‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

7 E ntonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los sabios y se cercioró del tiempo exacto en que había aparecido la estrella.

Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.

8 Y enviándolos a Belén, dijo: —Id allá y averiguad con diligencia acerca del niño y, cuando lo halléis, hacédmelo saber, para que yo también vaya a adorarlo.

And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

9 E llos, habiendo oído al rey, se fueron. Y la estrella que habían visto en el oriente iba delante de ellos, hasta que, llegando, se detuvo sobre donde estaba el niño.

When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.

10 Y al ver la estrella, se regocijaron con muy grande gozo.

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

11 A l entrar en la casa, vieron al niño con María, su madre, y postrándose lo adoraron. Luego, abriendo sus tesoros, le ofrecieron presentes: oro, incienso y mirra.

And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 P ero siendo avisados por revelación en sueños que no volvieran a Herodes, regresaron a su tierra por otro camino. La huida a Egipto

Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. The Flight into Egypt

13 D espués que partieron ellos, un ángel del Señor apareció en sueños a José y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y huye a Egipto. Permanece allá hasta que yo te diga, porque acontecerá que Herodes buscará al niño para matarlo.»

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

14 E ntonces él, despertando, tomó de noche al niño y a su madre, y se fue a Egipto.

When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,

15 E stuvo allí hasta la muerte de Herodes, para que se cumpliera lo que dijo el Señor por medio del profeta, cuando dijo: «De Egipto llamé a mi Hijo.» Matanza de los niños

and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.” Massacre of the Innocents

16 H erodes entonces, cuando se vio burlado por los sabios, se enojó mucho y mandó matar a todos los niños menores de dos años que había en Belén y en todos sus alrededores, conforme al tiempo indicado por los sabios.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

17 E ntonces se cumplió lo dicho por el profeta Jeremías, cuando dijo:

Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

18 « Voz fue oída en Ramá, grande lamentación, lloro y gemido; Raquel que llora a sus hijos y no quiso ser consolada, porque perecieron.» El regreso de Egipto

“A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.” The Home in Nazareth

19 P ero después que murió Herodes, un ángel del Señor apareció en sueños a José en Egipto,

Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y vete a tierra de Israel, porque han muerto los que procuraban la muerte del niño.»

saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.”

21 E ntonces él se levantó, tomó al niño y a su madre, y se fue a tierra de Israel.

Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 P ero cuando oyó que Arquelao reinaba en Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo temor de ir allá. Y avisado por revelación en sueños, se fue a la región de Galilea

But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.

23 y se estableció en la ciudad que se llama Nazaret, para que se cumpliera lo que fue dicho por los profetas, que habría de ser llamado nazareno.

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”
