1 D eterminó, pues, Salomón edificar Casa al nombre de Jehová, y casa para su reino.

Then Solomon determined to build a temple for the name of the Lord, and a royal house for himself.

2 Y designó Salomón setenta mil cargadores, ochenta mil canteros y tres mil seiscientos capataces que los vigilaran.

Solomon selected seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand to quarry stone in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

3 D espués envió Salomón a decir a Hiram, rey de Tiro: «Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole cedros para que se construyera una casa en que habitar.

Then Solomon sent to Hiram king of Tyre, saying: As you have dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build himself a house to dwell in, so deal with me.

4 M ira, yo tengo que edificar una Casa al nombre de Jehová, mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar incienso aromático delante de él, para la colocación continua de los panes de la proposición, para los holocaustos de la mañana y la tarde, los sábados, nuevas lunas, y festividades de Jehová, nuestro Dios; lo cual ha de ser perpetuo en Israel.

Behold, I am building a temple for the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to Him, to burn before Him sweet incense, for the continual showbread, for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the set feasts of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.

5 Y la Casa que tengo que edificar ha de ser grande, porque el Dios nuestro es grande sobre todos los dioses.

And the temple which I build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

6 P ero ¿quién será capaz de edificarle Casa, siendo que los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerlo? ¿Quién, pues, soy yo, para que le edifique Casa, aunque sólo sea para quemar incienso delante de él?

But who is able to build Him a temple, since heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him a temple, except to burn sacrifice before Him?

7 E nvíame, pues, ahora un hombre hábil que sepa trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, en púrpura, en grana y en azul, y que sepa esculpir con los maestros que están conmigo en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales contrató mi padre.

Therefore send me at once a man skillful to work in gold and silver, in bronze and iron, in purple and crimson and blue, who has skill to engrave with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

8 E nvíame también madera del Líbano: cedro, ciprés y sándalo; porque yo sé que tus siervos saben cortar madera en el Líbano. Mis siervos irán con los tuyos

Also send me cedar and cypress and algum logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and indeed my servants will be with your servants,

9 p ara que me preparen mucha madera, porque la Casa que tengo que edificar ha de ser grande y portentosa.

to prepare timber for me in abundance, for the temple which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

10 P ara tus siervos, los que trabajen cortando la madera, daré veinte mil coros de trigo en grano, veinte mil coros de cebada, veinte mil batos de vino y veinte mil batos de aceite.»

And indeed I will give to your servants, the woodsmen who cut timber, twenty thousand kors of ground wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

11 E ntonces Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió a Salomón: «Porque Jehová amó a su pueblo, te ha puesto por rey sobre ellos.»

Then Hiram king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon: Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them.

12 H iram también decía: «Bendito sea Jehová, el Dios de Israel, que hizo los cielos y la tierra, y que dio al rey David un hijo sabio, entendido, cuerdo y prudente, que va a edificar una casa a Jehová y una casa para su reino.

Hiram also said: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, for He has given King David a wise son, endowed with prudence and understanding, who will build a temple for the Lord and a royal house for himself!

13 Y o, pues, te he enviado un hombre hábil y entendido, Hiram-abi,

And now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram my master craftsman

14 h ijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan, aunque su padre era de Tiro, el cual sabe trabajar en oro, plata, bronce y hierro, en piedra y en madera, en púrpura y en azul, en lino y en carmesí; asimismo sabe esculpir toda clase de figuras y sacar toda forma de diseño que se le pida, junto a tus hombres peritos y a los de mi señor David, tu padre.

(the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre), skilled to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple and blue, fine linen and crimson, and to make any engraving and to accomplish any plan which may be given to him, with your skillful men and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.

15 A hora, pues, envíe mi señor a sus siervos el trigo y la cebada, el aceite y el vino de que ha hablado;

Now therefore, the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants.

16 y nosotros cortaremos en el Líbano la madera que necesites, y te la llevaremos en balsas por el mar hasta Jope, y tú harás que la suban hasta Jerusalén.»

And we will cut wood from Lebanon, as much as you need; we will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, and you will carry it up to Jerusalem.

17 S alomón hizo el censo de todos los extranjeros que había en la tierra de Israel, después del que David, su padre, había hecho; y se halló que eran ciento cincuenta y tres mil seiscientos.

Then Solomon numbered all the aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census in which David his father had numbered them; and there were found to be one hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred.

18 Y señaló de ellos setenta mil para llevar cargas, ochenta mil para las canteras en las montañas, y tres mil seiscientos como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.

And he made seventy thousand of them bearers of burdens, eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred overseers to make the people work.
