1 L legaron, pues, los zifeos adonde estaba Saúl, en Gabaa, diciendo: «¿No está David escondido en el collado de Haquila, al oriente del desierto?»

Now the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding in the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?”

2 E ntonces Saúl se levantó y descendió al desierto de Zif, llevando consigo tres mil hombres escogidos de Israel, para buscar a David en el desierto de Zif.

Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph.

3 A campó Saúl en el collado de Haquila, que está junto al camino, al oriente del desierto. Andaba David por el desierto, y advirtió que Saúl entraba a perseguirlo en el desierto,

And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is opposite Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4 p or lo que envió unos espías, y supo con certeza que Saúl había llegado.

David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had indeed come.

5 S e levantó luego David y fue al sitio donde Saúl había acampado. Observó el lugar donde dormían Saúl y Abner hijo de Ner, general de su ejército. Estaba Saúl durmiendo en el campamento, y el pueblo acampaba en derredor suyo.

So David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Now Saul lay within the camp, with the people encamped all around him.

6 E ntonces David dijo a Ahimelec, el heteo, y a Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, hermano de Joab: —¿Quién descenderá conmigo al campamento donde está Saúl? Abisai dijo: —Yo descenderé contigo.

Then David answered, and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul in the camp?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”

7 D avid y Abisai fueron, pues, de noche adonde estaba el ejército. Saúl se hallaba tendido durmiendo en el campamento, con su lanza clavada en tierra a su cabecera; Abner y el ejército estaban tendidos alrededor de él.

So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and there Saul lay sleeping within the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. And Abner and the people lay all around him.

8 E ntonces dijo Abisai a David: —Hoy ha entregado Dios a tu enemigo en tus manos; ahora, pues, déjame que lo hiera con la lanza: lo clavaré en tierra de un golpe, y no le hará falta un segundo golpe.

Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!”

9 D avid respondió a Abisai: —No lo mates; porque ¿quién extenderá impunemente su mano contra el ungido de Jehová?

But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord ’s anointed, and be guiltless?”

10 D ijo además David: —¡Vive Jehová!, que si Jehová no lo hiriera (sea que le llegue su día y muera, o descienda a la batalla y perezca),

David said furthermore, “ As the Lord lives, the Lord shall strike him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall go out to battle and perish.

11 g uárdeme Jehová de extender mi mano contra el ungido de Jehová. Pero ahora toma la lanza que está a su cabecera y la vasija de agua, y vámonos.

The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord ’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.”

12 S e llevó, pues, David la lanza y la vasija de agua de la cabecera de Saúl y se fueron. No hubo nadie que los viera, ni se diera cuenta, ni se despertara, pues todos dormían; porque había caído sobre ellos un profundo sueño enviado por Jehová.

So David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul’s head, and they got away; and no man saw or knew it or awoke. For they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.

13 L uego pasó David al lado opuesto y se puso en la cumbre del monte a lo lejos, de manera que había una gran distancia entre ellos.

Now David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great distance being between them.

14 Y gritó David al pueblo y a Abner hijo de Ner, diciendo: —¿No respondes, Abner? Abner respondió: —¿Quién eres tú que gritas al rey?

And David called out to the people and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Do you not answer, Abner?” Then Abner answered and said, “Who are you, calling out to the king?”

15 E ntonces dijo David a Abner: —¿No eres tú un hombre? ¿Quién hay como tú en Israel? ¿Por qué, pues, no has guardado al rey tu señor? Porque uno del pueblo ha entrado a matar a tu señor el rey.

So David said to Abner, “ Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king.

16 E sto que has hecho no está bien. ¡Vive Jehová!, que sois dignos de muerte, porque no habéis guardado a vuestro señor, al ungido de Jehová. Mira ahora dónde está la lanza del rey y la vasija de agua que tenía a su cabecera.

This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not guarded your master, the Lord ’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jug of water that was by his head.”

17 R econociendo Saúl la voz de David, dijo: —¿No es ésta tu voz, David, hijo mío? David respondió: —Sí, es mi voz, rey y señor mío.

Then Saul knew David’s voice, and said, “ Is that your voice, my son David?” David said, “ It is my voice, my lord, O king.”

18 Y añadió: —¿Por qué persigue así mi señor a su siervo? ¿Qué he hecho? ¿Qué mal hay en mis manos?

And he said, “Why does my lord thus pursue his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in my hand?

19 R uego, pues, que el rey mi señor oiga ahora las palabras de su siervo. Si es Jehová quien te instiga contra mí, que acepte él la ofrenda; pero si son los hombres, malditos sean ellos en presencia de Jehová, porque me han expulsado hoy para que no tenga parte en la heredad de Jehová, diciéndome: “Ve y sirve a dioses ajenos”.

Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’

20 Q ue no caiga, pues, ahora mi sangre en tierra delante de Jehová, porque ha salido el rey de Israel a buscar una pulga, como quien persigue una perdiz por los montes.

So now, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord. For the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”

21 E ntonces dijo Saúl: —He pecado; vuelve, David, hijo mío, que ya no te haré ningún mal, porque mi vida ha sido estimada preciosa hoy a tus ojos. He obrado neciamente, he cometido un gran error.

Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”

22 D avid respondió: —Aquí está la lanza del rey; pase acá uno de los criados y tómela.

And David answered and said, “Here is the king’s spear. Let one of the young men come over and get it.

23 Q ue Jehová pague a cada uno según su justicia y su lealtad, pues Jehová te había entregado hoy en mis manos, pero yo no quise extender mi mano contra el ungido de Jehová.

May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord ’s anointed.

24 D el mismo modo que tu vida ha sido estimada preciosa hoy a mis ojos, así sea mi vida a los ojos de Jehová, y me libre de toda aflicción.

And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”

25 Y Saúl dijo a David: —Bendito seas tú, David, hijo mío; sin duda emprenderás tú cosas grandes, y prevalecerás. Entonces David siguió su camino, y Saúl regresó a su lugar.

Then Saul said to David, “ May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
