1 C uando llegó Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres de guerra escogidos, para pelear contra Israel y devolver el reino a Roboam.

Now when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled from the house of Judah and Benjamin one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

2 P ero vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías, varón de Dios, diciendo:

But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 « Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, y diles:

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 “ Así ha dicho Jehová: No subáis a pelear contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa, porque esto es cosa mía.”» Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Jehová y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam. Prosperidad de Roboam

‘Thus says the Lord: “You shall not go up or fight against your brethren! Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me.”’” Therefore they obeyed the words of the Lord, and turned back from attacking Jeroboam. Rehoboam Fortifies the Cities

5 H abitó Roboam en Jerusalén y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

So Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

6 E dificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa,

And he built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

7 B et-sur, Soco, Adulam,

Beth Zur, Sochoh, Adullam,

8 G at, Maresa, Zif,

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

9 A doraim, Laquis, Azeca,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

10 Z ora, Ajalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín.

Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, fortified cities.

11 R eforzó también las fortalezas y puso en ellas capitanes, provisiones, vino y aceite;

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

12 e n todas las ciudades había escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín le estaban sujetos.

Also in every city he put shields and spears, and made them very strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side. Priests and Levites Move to Judah

13 L os sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos los lugares donde vivían,

And from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him.

14 p ues los levitas dejaron sus ejidos y sus posesiones y se fueron a Judá y a Jerusalén, porque Jeroboam y sus hijos los excluyeron del ministerio de Jehová.

For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord.

15 Y él designó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, para los demonios y para los becerros que había hecho.

Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

16 T ras aquellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel, los que tenían el propósito sincero de buscar a Jehová, Dios de Israel; y fueron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

And after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.

17 A sí fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años; porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years. The Family of Rehoboam

18 T omó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat, hija de Jerimot hijo de David y de Abihail, hija de Eliab hijo de Isaí,

Then Rehoboam took for himself as wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliah the son of Jesse.

19 l a cual le dio a luz estos hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

And she bore him children: Jeush, Shamariah, and Zaham.

20 D espués de ella tomó a Maaca, hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz Abías, Atai, Ziza y Selomit.

After her he took Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 P ero Roboam amó a Maaca, hija de Absalón, sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas, pues tuvo dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

Now Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22 Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maaca como jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerlo rey.

And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

23 O bró sagazmente, pues esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, dándoles provisiones en abundancia y muchas mujeres.

He dealt wisely, and dispersed some of his sons throughout all the territories of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city; and he gave them provisions in abundance. He also sought many wives for them.
