1 H ubo un hombre de Ramataim, sufita de los montes de Efraín, que se llamaba Elcana hijo de Jeroham hijo de Eliú, hijo de Tohu, hijo de Zuf, efrateo.

Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the mountains of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

2 T enía dos mujeres; el nombre de una era Ana, y el de la otra, Penina. Penina tenía hijos, pero Ana no los tenía.

And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 T odos los años, aquel hombre subía de su ciudad para adorar y ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová de los ejércitos en Silo, donde estaban dos hijos de Elí: Ofni y Finees, sacerdotes de Jehová.

This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.

4 C uando llegaba el día en que Elcana ofrecía sacrificio, daba a Penina, su mujer, la parte que le correspondía, así como a cada uno de sus hijos e hijas.

And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters.

5 P ero a Ana le daba una parte escogida, porque amaba a Ana, aunque Jehová no le había concedido tener hijos.

But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb.

6 Y su rival la irritaba, enojándola y entristeciéndola porque Jehová no le había concedido tener hijos.

And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb.

7 A sí hacía cada año; cuando subía a la casa de Jehová, la irritaba así, por lo cual Ana lloraba y no comía.

So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. Hannah’s Vow

8 Y Elcana, su marido, le decía: «Ana, ¿por qué lloras? ¿por qué no comes? ¿y por qué está afligido tu corazón? ¿No te soy yo mejor que diez hijos?»

Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9 D espués de comer y beber en Silo, Ana se levantó, y mientras el sacerdote Elí estaba sentado en una silla junto a un pilar del templo de Jehová,

So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord.

10 e lla, con amargura de alma, oró a Jehová y lloró desconsoladamente.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish.

11 E hizo voto diciendo: «¡Jehová de los ejércitos!, si te dignas mirar a la aflicción de tu sierva, te acuerdas de mí y no te olvidas de tu sierva, sino que das a tu sierva un hijo varón, yo lo dedicaré a Jehová todos los días de su vida, y no pasará navaja por su cabeza.»

Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

12 M ientras ella oraba largamente delante de Jehová, Elí observaba sus labios.

And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth.

13 P ero Ana oraba en silencio y solamente se movían sus labios; su voz no se oía, por lo que Elí la tuvo por ebria.

Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

14 E ntonces le dijo Elí: —¿Hasta cuándo estarás ebria? ¡Digiere tu vino!

So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!”

15 P ero Ana le respondió: —No, señor mío; soy una mujer atribulada de espíritu. No he bebido vino ni sidra, sino que he derramado mi alma delante de Jehová.

But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.

16 N o tengas a tu sierva por una mujer impía, porque sólo por la magnitud de mis congojas y de mi aflicción he estado hablando hasta ahora.

“Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.”

17 — Ve en paz, y el Dios de Israel te otorgue la petición que le has hecho —le dijo Elí.

Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.”

18 — Halle tu sierva gracia delante de tus ojos —respondió ella. Se fue la mujer por su camino, comió, y no estuvo más triste.

And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad. Samuel Is Born and Dedicated

19 S e levantaron de mañana, adoraron delante de Jehová y volvieron de regreso a su casa en Ramá. Elcana se llegó a Ana su mujer, y Jehová se acordó de ella.

Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her.

20 A conteció que al cumplirse el tiempo, después de haber concebido Ana, dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Samuel, «por cuanto —dijo— se lo pedí a Jehová».

So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”

21 D espués Elcana, el marido, subió con toda su familia para ofrecer a Jehová el sacrificio acostumbrado y su voto.

Now the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

22 P ero Ana no subió, sino dijo a su marido: —Yo no subiré hasta que el niño sea destetado. Entonces lo llevaré, será presentado delante de Jehová y se quedará allá para siempre.

But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “ Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the Lord and remain there forever.”

23 E lcana, su marido, le respondió: —Haz lo que bien te parezca y quédate hasta que lo destetes; así cumpla Jehová su palabra. Se quedó la mujer y crió a su hijo hasta que lo destetó.

So Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you; wait until you have weaned him. Only let the Lord establish His word.” Then the woman stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.

24 D espués que lo destetó, y siendo el niño aún muy pequeño, lo llevó consigo a la casa de Jehová en Silo, con tres becerros, un efa de harina y una vasija de vino.

Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh. And the child was young.

25 T ras inmolar el becerro, trajeron el niño a Elí.

Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli.

26 Y Ana le dijo: —¡Oh, señor mío! Vive tu alma, señor mío, yo soy aquella mujer que estuvo aquí junto a ti, orando a Jehová.

And she said, “O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord.

27 P or este niño oraba, y Jehová me dio lo que le pedí.

For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.

28 Y o, pues, lo dedico también a Jehová; todos los días que viva, será de Jehová. Y adoró allí a Jehová.

Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” So they worshiped the Lord there.
