1 » Estas cosas os he hablado para que no tengáis tropiezo.

“These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.

2 O s expulsarán de las sinagogas, y aun viene la hora cuando cualquiera que os mate pensará que rinde servicio a Dios.

They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.

3 Y harán esto porque no conocen al Padre ni a mí.

And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

4 P ero os he dicho estas cosas para que, cuando llegue la hora, os acordéis de que ya os lo había dicho. La obra del Espíritu Santo »Esto no os lo dije al principio, porque yo estaba con vosotros.

But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. The Work of the Holy Spirit

5 P ero ahora voy al que me envió, y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta: “¿A dónde vas?”

“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’

6 A ntes, porque os he dicho estas cosas, tristeza ha llenado vuestro corazón.

But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

7 P ero yo os digo la verdad: Os conviene que yo me vaya, porque si no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a vosotros; pero si me voy, os lo enviaré.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

8 Y cuando él venga, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio.

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 D e pecado, por cuanto no creen en mí;

of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

10 d e justicia, por cuanto voy al Padre y no me veréis más;

of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;

11 y de juicio, por cuanto el príncipe de este mundo ha sido ya juzgado.

of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

12 » Aún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis sobrellevar.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

13 P ero cuando venga el Espíritu de verdad, él os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga y os hará saber las cosas que habrán de venir.

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

14 É l me glorificará, porque tomará de lo mío y os lo hará saber.

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

15 T odo lo que tiene el Padre es mío; por eso dije que tomará de lo mío y os lo hará saber. La tristeza se convertirá en gozo

All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. Sorrow Will Turn to Joy

16 » Todavía un poco y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco y me veréis, porque yo voy al Padre.

“A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”

17 E ntonces algunos de sus discípulos se decían entre sí: —¿Qué es esto que nos dice: “Todavía un poco y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco y me veréis”; y “porque yo voy al Padre”?

Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’ ?”

18 D ecían, pues: —¿Qué quiere decir con: “Todavía un poco”? No entendemos lo que dice.

They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’ ? We do not know what He is saying.”

19 J esús comprendió que querían preguntarle, y les dijo: —¿Preguntáis entre vosotros acerca de esto que dije: “Todavía un poco y no me veréis, y de nuevo un poco y me veréis”?

Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’?

20 D e cierto, de cierto os digo que vosotros lloraréis y lamentaréis, y en cambio el mundo se alegrará; pero aunque vosotros estéis tristes, vuestra tristeza se convertirá en gozo.

Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

21 L a mujer cuando da a luz tiene dolor, porque ha llegado su hora; pero después que ha dado a luz a un niño, ya no se acuerda de la angustia, por el gozo de que haya nacido un hombre en el mundo.

A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

22 T ambién vosotros ahora tenéis tristeza, pero os volveré a ver y se gozará vuestro corazón, y nadie os quitará vuestro gozo.

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

23 E n aquel día no me preguntaréis nada. De cierto, de cierto os digo que todo cuanto pidáis al Padre en mi nombre, os lo dará.

“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

24 H asta ahora nada habéis pedido en mi nombre; pedid, y recibiréis, para que vuestro gozo sea completo. Yo he vencido al mundo

Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Jesus Christ Has Overcome the World

25 » Estas cosas os he hablado en alegorías; la hora viene cuando ya no os hablaré en alegorías, sino que claramente os anunciaré acerca del Padre.

“These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

26 E n aquel día pediréis en mi nombre, y no os digo que yo rogaré al Padre por vosotros,

In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;

27 p ues el Padre mismo os ama, porque vosotros me habéis amado y habéis creído que yo salí de Dios.

for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

28 S alí del Padre y he venido al mundo; otra vez dejo el mundo y regreso al Padre.

I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”

29 L e dijeron sus discípulos: —Ahora hablas claramente y ninguna alegoría dices.

His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!

30 A hora entendemos que sabes todas las cosas y no necesitas que nadie te pregunte; por esto creemos que has salido de Dios.

Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.”

31 J esús les respondió: —¿Ahora creéis?

Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?

32 L a hora viene, y ha venido ya, en que seréis esparcidos cada uno por su lado y me dejaréis solo; pero no estoy solo, porque el Padre está conmigo.

Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

33 E stas cosas os he hablado para que en mí tengáis paz. En el mundo tendréis aflicción, pero confiad, yo he vencido al mundo.

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
