1 T enía Noemí un pariente de su marido, hombre rico de la familia de Elimelec, el cual se llamaba Booz.

There was a relative of Naomi’s husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz.

2 U n día Rut, la moabita, dijo a Noemí: —Te ruego que me dejes ir al campo a recoger espigas en pos de aquel a cuyos ojos halle gracia. —Vé, hija mía —le respondió ella.

So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.”

3 F ue, pues, y al llegar, se puso a espigar en el campo tras los segadores. Y aconteció que aquella parte del campo era de Booz, el pariente de Elimelec.

Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

4 L legaba entonces Booz de Belén, y dijo a los segadores: —Jehová sea con vosotros. —Jehová te bendiga —le respondieron ellos.

Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!”

5 L uego Booz le preguntó a su criado, el encargado de los segadores: —¿De quién es esta joven?

Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”

6 E l criado encargado de los segadores respondió: —Es la joven moabita que volvió con Noemí de los campos de Moab.

So the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered and said, “It is the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.

7 M e ha dicho: “Te ruego que me dejes espigar y recoger tras los segadores entre las gavillas.” Entró, pues, y ha estado trabajando desde la mañana hasta ahora, sin descansar ni un solo momento.

And she said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came and has continued from morning until now, though she rested a little in the house.”

8 E ntonces Booz dijo a Rut: —Oye, hija mía, no te vayas, ni recojas espigas en otro campo; te quedarás aquí junto a mis criadas.

Then Boaz said to Ruth, “You will listen, my daughter, will you not? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here, but stay close by my young women.

9 M ira bien el campo que sieguen y síguelas; pues he mandado a los criados que no te molesten. Y cuando tengas sed, ve a las vasijas, y bebe del agua que sacan los criados.

Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Have I not commanded the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn.”

10 E ntonces ella, bajando su rostro, se postró en tierra y le dijo: —¿Por qué he hallado gracia a tus ojos para que me favorezcas siendo yo extranjera?

So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”

11 B ooz le respondió: —He sabido todo lo que has hecho con tu suegra después de la muerte de tu marido, y cómo has dejado a tu padre y a tu madre, y la tierra donde naciste, para venir a un pueblo que no conocías.

And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.

12 Q ue Jehová te recompense por ello, y que recibas tu premio de parte de Jehová Dios de Israel, bajo cuyas alas has venido a refugiarte.

The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”

13 E lla le dijo: —Señor mío, me has mostrado tu favor y me has consolado; has hablado al corazón de tu sierva, aunque no soy ni siquiera como una de tus criadas.

Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.”

14 A la hora de comer Booz le dijo: «Ven aquí, come del pan, y moja tu bocado en el vinagre.» Se sentó ella junto a los segadores, y él le dio del guiso; comió hasta quedar satisfecha y aun sobró.

Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.

15 C uando se levantó para seguir espigando, Booz ordenó a sus criados: «Que recoja también espigas entre las gavillas, y no la avergoncéis;

And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.

16 d ejaréis también caer para ella algo de los manojos; dejadlo para que lo recoja, y no la reprendáis.»

Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.”

17 E spigó, pues, en el campo hasta la noche, y cuando desgranó lo que había recogido, era como un efa de cebada.

So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.

18 L o tomó y se fue a la ciudad, y su suegra vio lo que había espigado. Luego sacó también lo que le había sobrado después de haber quedado satisfecha, y se lo dio.

Then she took it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. So she brought out and gave to her what she had kept back after she had been satisfied.

19 S u suegra le preguntó: —¿Dónde has espigado hoy? ¿Dónde has trabajado? ¡Bendito sea el que te ha favorecido! Ella contó a su suegra con quién había trabajado, y añadió: —El hombre con quien he trabajado hoy se llama Booz.

And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? And where did you work? Blessed be the one who took notice of you.” So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”

20 D ijo entonces Noemí a su nuera: —¡Bendito de Jehová, pues que no ha negado a los vivos la benevolencia que tuvo para con los que han muerto! —Ese hombre es pariente nuestro, uno de los que pueden redimirnos —añadió.

Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Blessed be he of the Lord, who has not forsaken His kindness to the living and the dead!” And Naomi said to her, “This man is a relation of ours, one of our close relatives.”

21 R ut la moabita siguió diciendo: —Además de esto me pidió: “Quédate con mis criadas, hasta que hayan acabado toda mi cosecha.”

Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also said to me, ‘You shall stay close by my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’”

22 R espondió Noemí a su nuera Rut: —Mejor es, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, y que no te encuentren en otro campo.

And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “ It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, and that people do not meet you in any other field.”

23 E stuvo espigando, pues, junto con las criadas de Booz, hasta que se acabó la cosecha de la cebada y la del trigo. Y mientras, seguía viviendo con su suegra.

So she stayed close by the young women of Boaz, to glean until the end of barley harvest and wheat harvest; and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.
