1 В ярно е това слово: Ако се ревне някому епископство, добро дело желае.

Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 П рочее, епископът трябва да бъде непорочен, мъж на една жена, самообладан, разбран, порядъчен, честолюбив, способен да поучава,

The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 н е навикнал на пияни разправии, не побойник, а кротък, не крамолник, не сребролюбец;

no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;

4 к ойто управлява добре своя си дом и държи чадата си в послушание с пълна сериозност;

one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 ( защото човек ако не знае да управлява своя си дом, как ще се грижи за Божията църква?)

(but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 д а не е нов във вярата, за да се не възгордее и падне под същото осъждане с дявола.

not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 П ри това, той трябва да се ползува с добри отзиви и от външните, за да не падне в укор и в примката на дявола.

Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8 Т ака и дяконите трябва да бъдат сериозни, не двоезични, да не обичат много вино, да не бъдат лакоми за гнусна печалба,

Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

9 д а държат с чиста съвест тайната на вярата.

holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10 С ъщо и те първо да се изпитват и после да стават дякони, ако са непорочни.

And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.

11 Т ъй и жените им ( Или: дякониците) трябва да бъдат сериозни, не клеветници, самообладани, вярни във всичко.

Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

12 Д яконите да бъдат мъже всеки на една жена, да управляват добре чадата си и домовете си.

Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13 З ащото, тия които са служили добре като дякони, придобиват за себе си добро положение и голямо дръзновение във вярата на Христа Исуса.

For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

14 Н адявам се скоро да дойда при тебе; но това ти пиша,

These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly;

15 в случай, че закъснея, за да знаеш, как трябва да се обхождат хората в Божия дом, който е църква на живия Бог, стълб и подпорка на истината.

but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

16 И без противоречие, велика е тайната на благочестието:

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
