1 M y son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

3 F or the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

Los labios de la mujer ajena destilan miel; su paladar es más suave que el aceite,

4 B ut her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

pero termina siendo amargo como el ajenjo, y tajante como una espada de dos filos.

5 H er feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

Sus pies descienden a la muerte; sus pasos se dirigen al sepulcro.

6 L est thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

No tomes en cuenta sus caminos inestables, porque no conocerás el camino de la vida.

7 H ear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

Hijos, escúchenme bien ahora: No se aparten de las razones de mi boca.

8 R emove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

Aleja a esa mujer de tu camino. No te acerques a la puerta de su casa.

9 L est thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

Así no entregarás tu vida y tu honor a gente extraña y cruel.

10 L est strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

Así gente extraña no se saciará con tu fuerza, ni se quedarán tus trabajos en casa ajena.

11 A nd thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

Así no tendrás que llorar al final, cuando tu carne y tu cuerpo se consuman,

12 A nd say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

ni dirás: «¡Cómo pude rechazar los consejos! ¡Cómo pudo mi corazón despreciar la reprensión!

13 A nd have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

¡No oí la voz de los que me instruían, ni presté oído a los que me enseñaban!

14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

¡Poco me faltó para estar del todo mal entre la comunidad y la congregación!»

15 D rink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

Bebe el agua de tu propio pozo, el raudal que mana de tu propia cisterna.

16 L et thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

¿Por qué derramar tus fuentes por las calles, y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas?

17 L et them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

Esas aguas son para ti solo, no para compartirlas con gente extraña.

18 L et thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

¡Bendito sea tu manantial! ¡Alégrate con la mujer de tu juventud,

19 L et her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

con esa cervatilla amada y graciosa! ¡Sáciate de sus caricias en todo tiempo! ¡Recréate siempre con su amor!

20 A nd why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

Hijo mío, ¿Por qué perder la cabeza por la mujer ajena? ¿Por qué arrojarte a los brazos de una extraña?

21 F or the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

Los caminos del hombre están ante el Señor, y él pone a consideración todas sus veredas.

22 H is own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

Al impío lo atrapa su propia maldad, lo atan las cuerdas de su pecado.

23 H e shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

El malvado muere por falta de corrección, y pierde el rumbo por su inmensa locura.
