6 A nd I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

»Voy a humillarte. Voy a lanzar inmundicias sobre ti. ¡Voy a ponerte como estiércol!

7 A nd it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

Todos los que te vean dirán, mientras se apartan de ti: “Nínive ha sido devastada. ¿Quién se compadecerá de ella? ¿Dónde hallaré quien la consuele?”

Tus fortalezas serán como las higueras: cuando las brevas ya están maduras, a la menor sacudida caen en la boca del que se las quiere comer.

13 B ehold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

En tus calles, los hombres se acobardarán; el país quedará indefenso ante el enemigo, y el fuego consumirá tus cerrojos.

14 D raw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

»Aunque te abastezcas de agua para el asedio, aunque refuerces tus fortalezas, aunque te metas en el lodo y lo apisones, y prepares el horno para hacer ladrillos,

15 T here shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

te consumirá el fuego y te derribará la espada. Aunque te multipliques como las langostas, la espada te consumirá como el pulgón.

16 T hou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and fleeth away.

»Tus mercaderes llegaron a multiplicarse más que las estrellas del cielo, pero llenos de miedo se dieron a la fuga.

17 T hy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

Eran tus príncipes y tus magnates tan voraces como una nube de langostas; en los días fríos se sentaban en los muros. ¡Pero el sol salió, y desaparecieron, y nunca más se supo de ellas!

18 T hy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

»Rey de Asiria, tus pastores ya han muerto. Para siempre reposan tus valientes. Tu pueblo anda disperso por las montañas, y no hay nadie que pueda congregarlos.

19 T here is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

Tus fracturas no tienen remedio. Tus heridas son incurables. Todos los que sepan lo que te ha pasado batirán las manos y se alegrarán de ti. ¿Y quién no sufrió tu constante maldad?
