1 S et the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

»¡Llévate la trompeta a los labios, que un águila revolotea sobre la casa del Señor! Y es que no respetaron mi pacto, sino que se rebelaron contra mi ley.

2 I srael shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

Israel clama a mí: “¡Dios mío, nosotros te conocemos!”,

3 I srael hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

pero en realidad rechaza mis bondades; por eso el enemigo lo perseguirá.

4 T hey have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

Los reyes que establecen, yo no los he escogido; cuando nombran a sus príncipes, nunca me lo dicen. Con su plata y su oro se hacen ídolos, para su propia destrucción.

5 T hy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

»Samaria, tu becerro te hizo alejarte. Mi enojo se encendió contra ustedes. ¿Hasta cuándo estarán sin poder purificarse?

6 F or from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

Y este otro becerro de Samaria también es de Israel. No es Dios, pues un artífice lo hizo. ¡Por eso será hecho pedazos!

7 F or they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

Han sembrado vientos, y recogerán torbellinos. No obtendrán mies alguna, ni su trigo producirá harina. Y en caso de producirla, gente extraña se la comerá.

8 I srael is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

Muy pronto Israel será devorado. Será entre las naciones como una vasija sin valor alguno.

9 F or they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

Porque ellos, a la manera de obstinado asno montés, recurrieron a Asiria. Y Efraín se compró amantes a cambio de un salario.

10 Y ea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

Pero ahora voy a juntarlos, y aunque se compren amantes entre las naciones, durante algún tiempo sufrirán la opresión del rey y de los príncipes.

11 B ecause Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

»Efraín multiplicó sus altares, que acabaron siendo altares de pecado.

12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

Le escribí las grandezas de mi ley, pero las vio como algo extraño.

13 T hey sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

Ofrecieron sacrificios, y se comieron la carne, pero eso no me agradó. Yo, el Señor, voy a tomar en cuenta su iniquidad, y castigaré su pecado. ¡Ellos volverán a Egipto!

14 F or Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Israel olvidó a su Creador y edificó templos, y Judá construyó muchas ciudades fortificadas, pero yo voy a prenderles fuego a sus ciudades, y sus palacios serán consumidos.»
