1 P aul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

Yo, Pablo, apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, y el hermano Timoteo, saludamos a la iglesia de Dios que está en Corinto, con todos los santos que están en toda Acaya.

2 G race be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Que la gracia y la paz de Dios nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo, sean con todos ustedes. Aflicciones de Pablo

3 B lessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda consolación,

4 W ho comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

quien nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones, para que también nosotros podamos consolar a los que están sufriendo, por medio de la consolación con que nosotros somos consolados por Dios.

5 F or as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Porque así como abundan en nosotros las aflicciones de Cristo, así también por el mismo Cristo abunda nuestra consolación.

6 A nd whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

Si nosotros sufrimos, es para que ustedes reciban consolación y salvación; si somos consolados, es para que ustedes reciban consuelo y puedan soportar como nosotros cuando pasen por los mismos sufrimientos.

7 A nd our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

Firme es nuestra esperanza respecto a ustedes, pues sabemos que así como participan en nuestras aflicciones, también participan en nuestra consolación.

8 F or we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

Hermanos, no queremos que ustedes ignoren nada acerca de los sufrimientos que padecimos en Asia; porque fuimos abrumados de manera extraordinaria y más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de tal modo que hasta perdimos la esperanza de seguir con vida.

9 B ut we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Pero la sentencia de muerte que pendía sobre nosotros fue para que no confiáramos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos;

10 W ho delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

y él nos libró, y nos libra, y aún tenemos la esperanza de que él seguirá librándonos de tal peligro de muerte,

11 Y e also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

si ustedes nos apoyan con sus oraciones por nosotros. Si muchos oran por nosotros, también serán muchos los que den gracias a Dios por el don concedido a nosotros por tantas oraciones. Pablo pospone su visita a Corinto

12 F or our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

Nuestro motivo de orgullo es el testimonio de nuestra conciencia ante Dios, que nos dice que en este mundo, y especialmente con ustedes, nos hemos comportado no con sabiduría humana, sino con la sencillez y la sinceridad que proviene de Dios.

13 F or we write none other things unto you, that what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

Porque no les escribimos nada que no pudieran leer y entender, y espero que al final puedan comprenderlo todo,

14 A s also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.

así como ya en parte han entendido que pueden estar orgullosos de nosotros, y que nosotros estaremos orgullosos de ustedes en el día del Señor Jesús.

15 A nd in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

Seguro de esto, quise antes que nada ir a visitarlos, para que tuvieran una doble bendición;

16 A nd to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

es decir, quise visitarlos de camino a Macedonia, y visitarlos nuevamente a mi regreso, para que me ayudaran a continuar mi viaje a Judea.

17 W hen I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

Cuando quise hacer esto, ¿fue acaso algo decidido a la ligera? ¿Acaso lo que pienso hacer, lo pienso como toda la gente, que está lista para decir «Sí» y «No» al mismo tiempo?

18 B ut as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

Dios es testigo fiel de que nosotros no les decimos a ustedes «Sí» y «No» al mismo tiempo.

19 F or the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

Porque Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios, que Silvano, Timoteo y yo les hemos predicado, no ha sido «Sí» y «No»; sino que siempre ha sido «Sí» en él.

20 F or all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Porque todas las promesas de Dios en él son «Sí». Por eso, por medio de él también nosotros decimos «Amén», para la gloria de Dios.

21 N ow he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

Y es Dios el que nos confirma con ustedes en Cristo, y es Dios el que nos ha ungido,

22 W ho hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

y es Dios el que también nos ha marcado con su sello, y el que, como garantía, ha puesto al Espíritu en nuestros corazones.

23 M oreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

Así que pongo a Dios por testigo de que, si aún no he pasado por Corinto, ha sido por consideración a ustedes.

24 N ot for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

No es nuestra intención dirigir la fe de ustedes, sino colaborar con ustedes para que tengan gozo, pues por la fe se mantienen firmes.
