1 A nd when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,

Cuando ya estaban cerca de Jerusalén, Betfagué y Betania, y frente al monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos de sus discípulos

2 A nd saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

y les dijo: «Vayan a la aldea que tienen ante ustedes. Al entrar en ella, van a encontrar atado un burrito, sobre el cual nadie se ha montado. Desátenlo y tráiganlo acá.

3 A nd if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.

Si alguien les pregunta: “¿Por qué hacen esto?”, respondan que el Señor lo necesita, y que muy pronto lo devolverá.»

4 A nd they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

Los discípulos fueron, y en la calle, junto a una puerta, encontraron el burrito atado. Lo desataron.

5 A nd certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?

Algunos de los que estaban allí les preguntaron: «¿Qué hacen? ¿Por qué están desatando el burrito?»

6 A nd they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.

Ellos les respondieron lo que Jesús les había dicho, y los dejaron desatarlo.

7 A nd they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

Ellos llevaron a Jesús el burrito, sobre el que echaron sus mantos, y luego Jesús se montó sobre él.

8 A nd many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.

Por el camino, muchos tendían también sus mantos, mientras que otros cortaban ramas que habían cortado en el campo.

9 A nd they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

Tanto los que iban delante como los que iban detrás gritaban: «¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!

10 B lessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

¡Bendito el reino venidero de nuestro padre David! ¡Hosanna en las alturas!»

11 A nd Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

Jesús entró en Jerusalén y se dirigió al templo. Después de mirar todo a su alrededor, se fue a Betania con los doce, pues ya estaba anocheciendo. Maldición de la higuera estéril

12 A nd on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

Al día siguiente, cuando salieron de Betania, Jesús tuvo hambre.

13 A nd seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

Al ver de lejos una higuera con hojas, fue a ver si hallaba en ella algún higo; pero al llegar no encontró en ella más que hojas, pues no era el tiempo de los higos.

14 A nd Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

Entonces Jesús le dijo a la higuera: «¡Que nadie vuelva a comer fruto de ti!» Y sus discípulos lo oyeron. Purificación del templo

15 A nd they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

Llegaron a Jerusalén. Y al entrar Jesús en el templo comenzó a echar de allí a los que vendían y compraban en su interior. Volcó las mesas de los cambistas y las sillas de los que vendían palomas,

16 A nd would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

y no permitía que nadie atravesara el templo llevando algún utensilio;

17 A nd he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

más bien, les enseñaba y les decía: «¿Acaso no está escrito: “Mi casa será llamada casa de oración para todas las naciones”? ¡Pero ustedes han hecho de ella una cueva de ladrones!»

18 A nd the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

Cuando los escribas y los principales sacerdotes lo oyeron, comenzaron a buscar la manera de matarlo. Y es que le tenían miedo, pues toda la gente estaba admirada de sus enseñanzas.

19 A nd when even was come, he went out of the city.

Pero al llegar la noche, Jesús salió de la ciudad. La higuera maldecida se seca

20 A nd in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

A la mañana siguiente, cuando pasaron cerca de la higuera, vieron que ésta se había secado de raíz.

21 A nd Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

Pedro se acordó y le dijo: «¡Mira, Maestro! ¡La higuera que maldijiste se ha secado!»

22 A nd Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

Jesús les dijo: «Tengan fe en Dios.

23 F or verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Porque de cierto les digo que cualquiera que diga a este monte: “¡Quítate de ahí y échate en el mar!”, su orden se cumplirá, siempre y cuando no dude en su corazón, sino que crea que se cumplirá.

24 T herefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Por tanto, les digo: Todo lo que pidan en oración, crean que lo recibirán, y se les concederá.

25 A nd when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Y cuando oren, si tienen algo contra alguien, perdónenlo, para que también su Padre que está en los cielos les perdone a ustedes sus ofensas.

26 B ut if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Porque si ustedes no perdonan, tampoco su Padre que está en los cielos les perdonará a ustedes sus ofensas.» La autoridad de Jesús

27 A nd they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

Volvieron a Jerusalén. Y mientras Jesús andaba por el templo, los principales sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos se le acercaron

28 A nd say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

y le preguntaron: «¿Con qué autoridad haces todo esto? ¿Quién te dio autoridad para hacerlo?»

29 A nd Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Jesús les dijo: «Yo también voy a hacerles una pregunta. Si me la responden, entonces les diré con qué autoridad hago esto.

30 T he baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

Díganme: el bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres?»

31 A nd they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

Ellos comenzaron a discutir entre sí: «Si decimos que era del cielo, él nos dirá: “Entonces, ¿por qué no le creyeron?”

32 B ut if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

Y si decimos que era de los hombres...» Y es que tenían miedo de la gente, pues todos consideraban que Juan era un verdadero profeta.

33 A nd they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Entonces le respondieron a Jesús: «No lo sabemos.» Y Jesús les dijo: «Pues yo tampoco voy a decirles con qué autoridad hago todo esto.»
