1 N ow it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)

En los días de Asuero, es decir, el Asuero que reinó sobre ciento veintisiete provincias, desde la India hasta Etiopía, sucedió

2 T hat in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace,

que fue afirmado su trono, que estaba en Susa, capital del reino.

3 I n the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:

En el tercer año de su reinado, Asuero ofreció un banquete a todos sus príncipes y cortesanos, en el que estuvieron presentes los personajes más poderosos de Persia y de Media, y también gobernadores y príncipes de provincias.

4 W hen he shewed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days.

Durante ciento ochenta días, ¡que fueron muchos días!, el rey Asuero les mostró las riquezas y esplendor de su reino, y el brillo y la magnificencia de su poder.

5 A nd when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;

Cumplidos estos días, el rey ofreció en Susa, la capital del reino, otro banquete de siete días para todo su pueblo. Lo ofreció para todos, desde el mayor hasta el menor, en el patio del huerto del palacio real.

6 W here were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.

El pabellón era de blanco, verde y azul, tendido sobre cuerdas de lino y púrpura en anillos de plata y columnas de mármol; los reclinatorios de oro y de plata, sobre un enlosado de pórfido y de mármol, y de alabastro y de jacinto.

7 A nd they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.

Se dio a beber mucho vino real en vasos de oro, diferentes unos de otros, de acuerdo con la generosidad del rey.

8 A nd the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.

Y se bebía según esta ley: A nadie se le obligaba a beber; porque el rey así lo había mandado a todos los mayordomos de su casa. Cada quien bebía según su voluntad.

9 A lso Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.

Y también la reina Vasti ofreció un banquete a las mujeres, en el palacio real del rey Asuero.

10 O n the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

El séptimo día el rey, cuyo corazón estaba alegre por causa del vino, mandó a Meumán, Bizta, Jarboná, Bigta, Abagta, Zetar y Carcas, los siete eunucos que le servían,

11 T o bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.

que llevaran ante él a la reina Vasti, y que ésta se presentara con la corona real, para mostrar su belleza a los pueblos y a los príncipes, pues era muy hermosa.

12 B ut the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

Pero la reina Vasti desobedeció la orden que le fue enviada por medio de los eunucos, y no quiso presentarse ante el rey. Entonces el rey se enojó mucho, y se encendió en ira.

13 T hen the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

El rey consultó a los sabios que conocían los tiempos (porque él acostumbraba tomar en cuenta a todos los que conocían la ley y el derecho;

14 A nd the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)

entre ellos estaban Carsena, Setar, Admata, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena y Memucán, siete príncipes de Persia y de Media que podían presentarse ante el rey y sentarse entre los principales del reino).

15 W hat shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?

Les preguntó qué se podía hacer con la reina Vasti según la ley, ya que no había acatado la orden que él le envió por medio de los eunucos.

16 A nd Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.

Memucán dijo delante del rey y de los príncipes: «La reina Vasti ha ofendido no solamente al rey Asuero, sino a todos los príncipes y pueblos y provincias del reino.

17 F or this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.

Lo que ha hecho la reina llegará a oídos de todas las mujeres, y ellas van a tener en poca estima a sus maridos, pues dirán: “El rey Asuero ordenó a la reina Vasti que se presentara ante él, y ella no fue.”

18 L ikewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.

Y entonces las señoras de Persia y de Media que sepan lo que hizo la reina, lo dirán a todos los príncipes del rey; y habrá mucho menosprecio y enojo.

19 I f it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.

Si al rey le parece bien, que se dicte un decreto real de parte de Su Majestad, y que éste se inscriba en las leyes de Persia y de Media, para que no sea quebrantado. Que Vasti no vuelva a presentarse ante el rey Asuero, y que el rey declare reina a otra que sea mejor que ella.

20 A nd when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.

Que el decreto que dicte Su Majestad sea pregonado en todo su reino (aunque es grande), y que todas las mujeres honren a sus maridos, desde el mayor hasta el menor.»

21 A nd the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:

Este consejo de Memucán agradó al rey y a los príncipes, y el rey actuó en consecuencia.

22 F or he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

Envió cartas a todas las provincias del reino, en la escritura de cada provincia y en el idioma de cada pueblo, en las que se decía que todo hombre debía imponer su autoridad en su casa, y que esto debía publicarse en el idioma del pueblo.
