4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

5 H earing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

6 T hat the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

7 F or we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

8 W herefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

9 Y et for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

te ruego por mi hijo Onésimo, que es el fruto de mis prisiones.

11 W hich in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

En otro tiempo, él te resultaba inútil, pero ahora nos es útil a ti y a mí.

12 W hom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

Ahora vuelvo a enviártelo, y te pido recibirlo como si me recibieras a mí mismo.

13 W hom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

Yo quisiera retenerlo conmigo, para que me sirviera en mis prisiones por el evangelio, en lugar tuyo;

14 B ut without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

pero no he querido hacer nada sin tu consentimiento, para que tu favor no te resulte una imposición, sino que sea un acto voluntario.

15 F or perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

Tal vez para esto se apartó de ti por algún tiempo; para que lo recibieras para siempre,

16 N ot now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

no ya como a un esclavo, sino como a alguien más que un esclavo, como a un hermano amado, de manera especial para mí, pero más aún para ti, tanto en la carne como en el Señor.

17 I f thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

Así que, si me consideras tu compañero, recíbelo como si fuera yo mismo.

18 I f he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

Y si algún daño te causó, o si te debe algo, ponlo a mi cuenta.

19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

Yo, Pablo, escribo esto de mi puño y letra; yo te lo pagaré; por no decir que tú mismo estás en deuda conmigo.

20 Y ea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

Así es, hermano; permíteme sacar algún provecho de ti en el Señor; reconforta mi corazón en el Señor.

21 H aving confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

Te he escrito porque confío en tu obediencia, y porque sé que harás aun más de lo que te pido.

22 B ut withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
