1 ¶ In the second year of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, began to reign.

EN el año segundo de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, comenzó á reinar Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá.

2 H e was twenty-five years old when he began to reign and reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Cuando comenzó á reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.

3 A nd he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father; he did according to all things as Joash his father did.

Y él hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como David su padre: hizo conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho Joas su padre.

4 W ith all this, the high places were not taken away; as yet the people sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places.

Con todo eso los altos no fueron quitados; que el pueblo aun sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.

5 A nd as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, he slew his slaves which had slain the king, his father.

Y luego que el reino fué confirmado en su mano, hirió á sus siervos, los que habían muerto al rey su padre.

6 B ut the sons of those who had slain him he slew not; according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but each one shall die for their own sin.

Mas no mató á los hijos de los que le mataron, conforme á lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No matarán á los padres por los hijos, ni á los hijos por los padres: mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

7 H e slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand and took Selah by war and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.

Este hirió asimismo diez mil Idumeos en el valle de las Salinas, y tomó á Sela por guerra, y llamóla Jocteel, hasta hoy.

8 ¶ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look each other in the face.

Entonces Amasías envió embajadores á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, y veámonos de rostro.

9 A nd Jehoash, the king of Israel, sent to Amaziah, king of Judah, this reply, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife. And the wild beasts that were in Lebanon passed by and trode down the thistle.

Y Joas rey de Israel envió á Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardillo que está en el Líbano envió á decir al cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer á mi hijo. Y pasaron las bestias fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardillo.

10 T hou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart has lifted thee up; glory in this, but tarry at home. Why should thou meddle in evil that thou should fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

Ciertamente has herido á Edom, y tu corazón te ha envanecido: gloríate pues, mas estáte en tu casa. ¿Y por qué te entrometerás en un mal, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?

11 B ut Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash, king of Israel, went up; and he and Amaziah, king of Judah, looked each other in the face at Bethshemesh, which is in Judah.

Mas Amasías no dió oídos; por lo que subió Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse de rostro él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, que es de Judá.

12 B ut Judah fell before Israel, and they fled each man to their tents.

Y Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron cada uno á sus estancias.

13 F urthermore, Jehoash, king of Israel, took Amaziah, king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Bethshemesh and came to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

Además Joas rey de Israel tomó á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Ochôzías, en Beth-semes: y vino á Jerusalem, y rompió el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.

14 A nd he took all the gold and silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD and in the treasury of the king’s house and the sons as hostages and returned to Samaria.

Y tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los vasos que fueron hallados en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos en rehenes, y volvióse á Samaria.

15 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash, which he did, and his might and how he fought with Amaziah, king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Lo demás de los hechos de Joas que ejecutó, y sus hazañas, y cómo peleó contra Amasías rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

16 A nd Jehoash slept with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam, his son, reigned in his stead.

Y durmió Joas con sus padres, y fué sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.

17 A nd Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived after the death of Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, fifteen years.

Y Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, quince años.

18 A nd the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

19 N ow they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and slew him there.

E hicieron conspiración contra él en Jerusalem, y él huyó á Lachîs; mas enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron.

20 A nd they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

Trajéronlo luego sobre caballos, y sepultáronlo en Jerusalem con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.

21 T hen all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

Entonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó á Azarías, que era de diez y seis años, é hiciéronlo rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.

22 H e built Elath and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

Edificó él á Elath, y la restituyó á Judá, después que el rey durmió con sus padres.

23 ¶ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam, the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria and reigned forty-one years.

El año quince de Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá, comenzó á reinar Jeroboam hijo de Joas sobre Israel en Samaria; y reinó cuarenta y un años.

24 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, y no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar á Israel.

25 H e restored the borders of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he had spoken by the hand of his slave Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gathhepher.

El restituyó los términos de Israel desde la entrada de Amath hasta la mar de la llanura, conforme á la palabra de Jehová Dios de Israel, la cual había él hablado por su siervo Jonás hijo de Amittai, profeta que fué de Gath-hepher.

26 F or the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter, for there was no one shut up nor any left nor any to help Israel;

Por cuanto Jehová miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había guardado ni desamparado, ni quien diese ayuda á Israel;

27 a nd the LORD had not yet determined to blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; therefore, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam, the son of Joash.

Y Jehová no había determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo: por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joas.

28 N ow the rest of the acts of Jeroboam and all that he did and his might, how he warred and how he recovered Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Y lo demás de los hechos de Jeroboam, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó á Judá en Israel á Damasco y á Hamath, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

29 A nd Jeroboam slept with his fathers, with the kings of Israel, and Zachariah, his son, reigned in his stead.

Y durmió Jeroboam con sus padres, los reyes de Israel, y reinó en su lugar Zachârías su hijo.
